What a business email list is

A business email list, also called a B2B mailing list or email database, is a set of email addresses of businesses and the people who run them, usually with the company name, a contact person, a phone number, the city and the industry. You use it to introduce your product or service to companies that could buy it.

It is different from a consumer list. Starleads sells only business lists: shops, clinics, firms, manufacturers and the professionals who work in them, in their work role.

Where business email addresses come from

Most business emails are published by the businesses themselves: on their websites, in business directories, on trade-fair and association member lists, and on listing sites where they advertise. A compiled list brings these together, cleans them and removes duplicates, so you get one row per business instead of collecting them one at a time.

What to check before you buy an email list

  1. Real sample rows. Ask to see actual contacts, not a screenshot or a count. Every Starleads list shows 60 real contacts and has a free Excel sample.
  2. Email coverage. How many rows actually have an email? A "50,000 contact" list where only 20% have an email gives you 10,000 addresses. Starleads shows this share on every list before you buy.
  3. The kind of address. Addresses with a person's name reply far more often than generic ones such as info@ or sales@. Both have a place, but know which you are buying.
  4. Duplicates and format. The same business should appear once, and every address should be a valid format. Badly formatted lists bounce, and bounces hurt your sending reputation.
  5. When it was built. People change jobs and companies change domains. The list should say when it was last cleaned.
  6. The price per usable email. Divide the price by the number of emails, not by the number of rows.

Lists with the most email addresses

These All-India lists have an email address for 90% or more of their contacts. Each is also sold state by state and city by city, and 3,191 of our 6,318 lists have an email for at least half their contacts.

Need one industry in one city, or only the contacts that have an email? The list builder lets you pick industries and places and keep only rows with an email address, and shows the count and price before you buy.

How to send without landing in spam

  • Check the addresses first. Run the list through an email verification service and remove addresses that bounce. Keep your bounce rate low.
  • Authenticate your domain. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for the domain you send from. Google and Yahoo require this of anyone sending in bulk to their users, and they expect spam complaints to stay below 0.3%.
  • Start small and personal. Send from a real business mailbox in small daily batches, with the person's name and a reason you are writing to them in particular. A short, plain email does better than a designed newsletter.
  • Use the right tool. Newsletter platforms such as Mailchimp don't allow bought or rented lists; use them only for people who have subscribed. Cold B2B outreach is usually sent from your own mailbox or a dedicated outreach tool.
  • Make stopping easy. Say who you are, give a simple way to opt out, and remove anyone who asks straight away.

Email or phone?

Use both. Most of these lists also have mobile numbers, so a short call followed by an email with the details often works better than either alone. The 7-day calling plan shows one way to combine them, and the rules to follow for calls, SMS and WhatsApp.
