Doctor contact number list and doctors database in India
The medical registers, what a doctors database contains, and how to approach busy doctors.

Who really needs a doctor contact number list
Most people who search for a doctor contact number list are not patients looking for an appointment. They are businesses that sell to clinics: a dealer of ECG machines in Lucknow, a firm that writes clinic billing software in Pune, a bio-medical waste collector moving into a new district. This guide covers where doctors are officially recorded, what a ready list adds, and how to call a clinic without wasting the doctor's time.
A doctors list in India mixes several kinds of practice, and each buys differently:
- Family doctors and general physicians with their own clinic, often one consulting room and a receptionist.
- Specialists such as gynaecologists, paediatricians, skin specialists, orthopaedic surgeons and eye doctors. Many consult at a hospital in the morning and at their own clinic in the evening.
- Polyclinics and day-care centres, where several doctors share one front desk.
- Ayurveda and homoeopathy practitioners, who register with their own state boards rather than the medical council.
- Pathology labs and diagnostic centres, which are businesses in their own right and use far more consumables than a clinic.
Medical registers and free sources, and their gaps
India has no single doctors directory with phone numbers. These are the sources people actually use:
- The Indian Medical Register. The National Medical Commission's online register lets you search by name or registration number and shows the qualification, the state council and the year of registration. It confirms that someone is a registered practitioner. It gives no phone number and often no current clinic address.
- State medical councils. Each council keeps its own register, and several have an online search. It records registration, not contact details.
- Maps and booking apps. Clinic listings show the address, timings and a front-desk number, one clinic at a time.
- Hospital websites. Larger hospitals list consultants by department, which shows who works where but not how to reach them.
- Medical associations. Local branches of the Indian Medical Association and specialist societies keep member directories, mostly for members' own use.
In short, the registers tell you whether a doctor is genuine and the maps tell you where a clinic is. Neither gives a sales team a sorted sheet of clinics in a district with mobile numbers and specialities.

Who buys a doctors list, and what it is not for
- Medical equipment dealers selling BP monitors, nebulisers, ECG machines, autoclaves and examination tables to new and growing clinics.
- Clinic software companies offering appointment reminders, digital prescriptions and GST billing.
- Bio-medical waste operators. Clinics generally hand their waste to an authorised common treatment facility, so operators call clinics in each new area they serve.
- Medical education organisers running CME programmes and workshops, and publishers of medical books.
- Banks and NBFCs with loans for clinic set-up and equipment, and insurers selling professional indemnity cover.
- Pharma field teams planning visits to registered practitioners. They work within their own company's compliance rules and the government's code on pharmaceutical marketing practices, which limits gifts and hospitality to doctors.
A doctors list is not a way to reach patients, and it is not for advertising prescription medicines to the public. Use it to offer doctors products and services for their practice. If you sell to larger set-ups with a purchase department, our guide to the hospitals list in India fits better, and dental clinics have their own dentists guide.
Calling a clinic at the right moment
- Learn the OPD timings. Most private clinics run a morning session and an evening session. Call in the gap, roughly 2 pm to 5 pm, or shortly before the morning session starts. A doctor in the middle of OPD will end the call in seconds.
- Expect the receptionist or compounder first. Give the reason for your call in one sentence and ask when the doctor is free. Note the time and call back exactly then.
- Make the opening about their clinic. For example: "Good afternoon, doctor. I'm Ritu from a Pune company that services autoclaves for clinics in Kothrud and Karve Nagar. May I send you our yearly service rates on WhatsApp?"
- Be ready for their questions. Doctors ask how long installation or training takes, who fixes it if it breaks, which nearby clinics already use you, and whether the bill comes with GST.
- Follow up once, then wait. Clinics buy when something breaks or a new branch opens, so one polite reminder a few weeks later works better than five calls this week.
Before you start, read the DND rules in our DND check guide. Send WhatsApp messages only to doctors who agreed to receive them; the WhatsApp for B2B guide explains opt-in and templates.
What buyers ask about doctors lists
Is a doctors database the same as a doctor contact number list?
Mostly, yes: both mean doctors' names, clinics and phone numbers in one sheet. A database usually adds the speciality, address and email where they are known. Ours has 2,68,497 doctors and clinics, 79% with a mobile number and 41% with an email address.
How do I check that a doctor is registered?
Search the Indian Medical Register on the National Medical Commission's website, or the register of the doctor's state medical council. For an Ayurveda or homoeopathy practitioner, check with the board or council for that system in their state.
Can I get only one kind of specialist?
Yes. Filter the speciality column of a full list, or buy one of the speciality lists above. For a mix, such as gynaecologists and IVF centres in three cities, request a custom list.
Can a doctor have their number taken off the list?
Yes. Anyone can ask for their details to be removed on our removal page. If you call from a list, keep your own do-not-call sheet too.
