What goes into a hospitals list

A hospitals list is only useful if it matches the kind of hospital you sell to. A 20-bed maternity nursing home in Nagpur and a large multi-speciality hospital in Gurugram are both hospitals, but they buy in completely different ways. Sort the market into these groups first:

  • Nursing homes and small hospitals, usually owned and run by one or two doctors, with the owner approving every purchase.
  • Single-speciality centres for eyes, maternity, IVF, orthopaedics, dialysis or cancer care.
  • Multi-speciality and corporate hospitals, including chains that buy centrally for all their branches.
  • Trust and mission hospitals, run by charitable trusts, societies or religious bodies, often with tight budgets and long-serving suppliers.
  • Government hospitals, from district hospitals to medical college hospitals, which buy through tenders and the Government e-Marketplace.
  • Ayurveda hospitals and residential wellness centres.

Free places to get a list of hospitals in India

  1. NABH. The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers lists the hospitals it has accredited. They tend to be larger, with formal purchase processes, but only a minority of hospitals are accredited.
  2. Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY. The scheme's website lets you search empanelled hospitals by state and district. Hospitals that have not joined the scheme are missing.
  3. State registrations. Hospitals and nursing homes register with the state health authorities, under the Clinical Establishments Act where the state has adopted it, or under the state's own law. The records sit with district health offices and are rarely published in a form you can download.
  4. Maps. Searching "hospital near" a locality gives you a working hospitals directory for one area at a time, with a reception number and no names.

None of these tells you who handles purchases. The numbers they show are usually the reception desk or the casualty line. Never use an emergency or ambulance number for a sales call.

Our hospitals database, by city and type

Our Hospitals & Nursing Homes list covers 23,944 hospitals and nursing homes in 337 cities and towns. 61% of entries have a mobile number, 45% carry a contact person's name and 51% an email address. 84% include a PIN code, which helps a field team plan its routes. Before you pay, the list page shows 60 real rows, the share of each field and the month the list was rebuilt.

Hospitals and equipment suppliers

If you make equipment and want dealers rather than end users, the medical equipment suppliers list is the one to open.

State-wide versions exist for 14 states, and city versions for 15 cities.

Who decides what a hospital buys

Reaching the right person matters more than reaching the right hospital. A rough map:

  • Small nursing homes: the owner doctor, sometimes with a manager who handles quotations and bills.
  • Mid-size hospitals: an administrator or medical superintendent, with a purchase officer who collects quotes.
  • Large hospitals and chains: a purchase department plus the head of the department that will use the item. Biomedical engineering decides on equipment and its upkeep, the IT head on software, the housekeeping manager on linen and cleaning supplies, and the pharmacy in-charge on surgical consumables.
  • Government hospitals: tenders and GeM. Read our GeM registration guide before you chase them.

Our guide to reaching purchase managers covers vendor registration and buyer habits in more detail.

Approaching hospitals: a five-step routine

  1. Match your product to a department before you dial, so you can ask for a role, not "someone in purchase".
  2. Call the main board line on a weekday, late morning. Purchase offices keep office hours and morning rounds are usually over. For a nursing home owner, try early afternoon, between OPD sessions.
  3. Keep the opening short and local. For example: "Good morning. I'm Arjun from a Hyderabad firm that supplies disposable bed linen and gowns to hospitals in Secunderabad. Who looks after housekeeping purchases, and may I email them our rate sheet?"
  4. Have the vendor file ready. Expect requests for your GST certificate, PAN, a cancelled cheque, catalogues, test reports and, for medical devices, the registration or licence that applies. Keep it as one PDF.
  5. Offer a trial or a demo. Hospitals rarely switch suppliers after one call. A sample batch, a demo in the ward or a reference from a nearby hospital is what gets you onto the approved list.

They will also ask about credit periods, delivery times, service response for equipment and annual maintenance contracts, so have clear answers. Check the DND rules before you start calling. If your product suits single-doctor clinics too, see the doctors list guide.

Hospital data: common questions

What is in a hospitals database?

Each row is one hospital or nursing home: its name, the contact person where known, phone numbers, email, address, city and PIN code. In ours, 61% of the 23,944 hospitals have a mobile number and 51% an email address. It tells you where to call, not who the purchase head is, so ask for the right department on the first call.

How do I find NABH accredited hospitals?

NABH publishes the names of accredited hospitals on its website. If accreditation matters for your product, for example quality software or infection control supplies, cross-check your shortlist against it.

Are nursing homes part of a hospitals list?

Yes. Small nursing homes are a large part of private healthcare in Indian towns, and they are often quicker to sell to because the owner decides. The type column and the nursing home lists above separate them from bigger hospitals.

Can I get hospitals in one district only?

City and state lists cover most needs. For a single district or a handful of towns, request a custom list, or combine places and related industries in the list builder.
