Transporters directory and logistics companies list, India

Where transporters are found, what a list contains, and who sells to fleet owners.

Who moves goods by road in India

A transporters directory is mostly a list of small firms. Much of India's road freight moves in trucks owned by operators with a few vehicles each, and a lot of it is booked through agents sitting in a city's transport nagar. The main players are:

  • Fleet owners: anything from one truck to a few hundred, usually running full loads on routes they know. Namakkal in Tamil Nadu is famous for its lorry owners and body builders.
  • Transport contractors and booking agents: offices in Delhi's Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar and the Transport Nagar areas of Jaipur, Lucknow and Indore, matching loads with trucks for a commission.
  • Part-load and parcel carriers: road express firms that collect small consignments through a network of branches.
  • Warehousing and third-party logistics firms: clustered around Bhiwandi near Mumbai, Gurugram and other consumption hubs.
  • Freight forwarders and customs brokers: export and import cargo by sea and air.
  • Specialists: cold chain, tankers, container trailers, car carriers and over-dimensional cargo.

A logistics companies list usually blends all of these, so check the category before you call. A cold-chain trucker is no use to a tile maker.

Official records, and what they miss

  • GST portal. Transport firms registered for GST show their legal name, trade name, address and status in a GSTIN or PAN search. You still need the GSTIN to start.
  • E-way bill system. Transporters without GST registration enrol on the e-way bill portal for a transporter ID so they can be named on bills. There is no public list of these IDs.
  • Vahan. The national vehicle register records trucks, not businesses. It will not tell you who to call for a load.
  • Industry bodies. Customs brokers are licensed by Customs, freight forwarders have their national federation, and the All India Motor Transport Congress speaks for truckers. Each covers its own members or licensees.
  • Freight apps and load boards. Useful for a one-off spot load, but you see whoever is online that day, not a steady partner.

None of these gives you transporters by city with a mobile number, which is the gap a ready list fills.

Our transporters directory, by city and service

The Transporters & Logistics Companies list holds 44,078 transporters, fleet operators, logistics firms and cargo agents in 187 cities. 92% have a mobile number, 67% a contact person and 55% an email address. 94% carry an office address, which helps you spot the firms clustered in one transport nagar. Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Pune and Chennai have the most entries. Sixty real rows and a free sample sit on the list page, so you can judge it first. The same transporters list is cut by city (20) and by state (13).

Who sells to fleet owners and logistics firms

  • Shippers hiring trucks for regular routes: a Ludhiana hosiery unit sending stock south, a Morbi tile maker, a Rajkot engineering works.
  • Fuel cards, FASTag and fleet payment products offered through banks and oil companies.
  • GPS trackers and fleet software: trip tracking, transport management systems, freight billing and e-way bill tools.
  • Tyres, retreading, lubricants, batteries and spare parts, plus truck body builders.
  • Truck finance and used-truck dealers.
  • Driver hiring and training firms.

Booking trucks or selling to transporters

  1. Be exact about the load. Route, weight, volume, how often, and whether goods need a closed body. "Some goods to the south" gets you a vague rate; "two closed-body trucks a week, Ludhiana to Bengaluru, about 7 tonnes each" gets a real one.
  2. Call late in the morning. Between roughly 10:30 am and 1 pm, the night's arrivals are sorted and evening loading has not begun. Month-end, when bills and payments pile up, is a poor time to pitch software or services.
  3. Open with the business you bring. For example: "Good morning, I'm calling from a hosiery unit in Ludhiana. We send two closed-body trucks a week to Bengaluru. Do you run that route, and what would you charge per trip?"
  4. Answer their questions. Expect to be asked about loading and unloading points, waiting time at each end, who pays for loading labour, advance and balance on delivery, and whether the volume is regular.
  5. Check before you hand over goods. Look up the firm's GSTIN, visit the office if the load is valuable, ask for references, and insist on a lorry receipt (bilty) for every consignment. Our guide to free company and GST look-ups shows how.

If you are selling to transporters rather than hiring them, the same timing holds. Our telecalling scripts include Hindi openers for owners who prefer Hindi, and the DND guide covers the calling rules.

Transporter list questions, answered

What is in a transporters directory?

Transport companies, fleet owners, goods carriers and logistics firms, with phone numbers and addresses, and the service they offer where it is known. Ours lists 44,078 of them, 92% with a mobile number. Many are small offices in a city's transport nagar, so expect the owner to answer.

Is there a government list of transporters?

No. GST, e-way bill and vehicle records each hold a piece, but none is a searchable directory of transport firms with phone numbers.

Should I call fleet owners or booking agents?

For a regular route, a fleet owner who runs it can give a steadier rate and accountability. For odd loads to many places, a booking agent in the transport nagar finds trucks faster, for a commission.

Can I find transporters for one route?

Start with the city where your goods load, since transporters base themselves near their customers. Ask each firm which routes it runs every week, and keep the ones that run yours.
