Brands, franchise counters and local couriers
Search for a list of courier companies in India and you get a dozen national brand names. The businesses you actually deal with in your town are different: franchise counters, area offices and local couriers that book, pick up and deliver for those brands, or for themselves. They fall into a few groups:
- National express networks: Blue Dart, DTDC, Delhivery and India Post's Speed Post among them, with hubs in the big cities and branches or franchisees below.
- International express firms that carry documents and parcels abroad and clear them through Customs.
- Franchise offices: a shopfront run by a local owner under a brand's name. Some book for more than one brand, and rates can differ from one franchisee to the next.
- Local and intra-city couriers: same-day documents and parcels within a city, often on two-wheelers.
- Surface cargo firms: heavier parcels and cartons by road, slower and cheaper than air express.
- Ecommerce logistics firms and shipping aggregators: built around online orders, cash on delivery and returns.
Finding a courier office without a list
- Brand websites. Each brand has a branch locator and a PIN code check that tells you whether it serves an address. Good for one area; you still have to collect numbers office by office.
- India Post. Its website finds post offices by PIN code, useful when Speed Post is the only service reaching a remote village.
- Customs registration. Couriers that clear international shipments register with Customs as authorised couriers. That covers the firms handling imports and exports, not the neighbourhood counters.
- GST portal. A GSTIN search confirms a franchisee's legal name and status before you open a credit account.
- Maps and local directories. Fine for a single locality, though counters change hands and numbers often.
There is no single register of courier offices. If you need a courier companies list covering every counter in several cities, a ready file saves weeks of searching.

Who works with courier offices
- Online sellers and small brands who want a better rate and a daily pickup from a local franchisee. Our ecommerce companies guide looks at those sellers from the other side.
- Shipping aggregators and logistics platforms signing up local partners for pickup and last-mile delivery.
- Courier brands growing their franchise network into new towns.
- Packaging and equipment suppliers: corrugated boxes, mailer bags, tape, weighing scales and thermal label printers.
- Offices that send documents every day, such as CA firms, law firms and lenders' agents, looking for a reliable counter nearby.
- Electric scooter rental firms and staffing agencies supplying riders and vehicles to delivery teams.
Getting a fair deal from a courier counter
Many people who call courier offices are sellers after a rate. These steps work for them, and for anyone selling to the counters.
- Know your numbers. Parcels a month, typical weight, share of cash on delivery, and the states you ship to most.
- Understand volumetric weight. Couriers charge the higher of actual weight and a weight worked out from the box's length, breadth and height. A light but bulky parcel in a loose box costs more than you expect.
- Call in the early afternoon. Mornings go on sorting and sending out deliveries, and evenings on bookings before the last dispatch.
- Give them a reason to quote sharply. For example: "Hello, I run an online saree store in Surat and ship about 300 prepaid parcels a month, mostly 500 grams, to Maharashtra and Karnataka. What rate can you give, and what time is your daily pickup?"
- Expect questions back on monthly volume, COD share, packing, your GST and PAN for the account, and whether you will pay weekly or keep a deposit. Ask them in turn about the COD remittance cycle, return charges, how weight disputes are settled and cover for high-value parcels.
- Run two couriers side by side for a month before you commit. Delivery times and damage rates matter more than a rupee off the rate. The 7-day calling plan helps you get through the counters in a city.
Quick answers about courier lists
Is a franchise office the same as the courier company?
No. It is a separate business run by its own owner under an agreement with the brand. Rates, pickup times and service can vary between franchisees, while complaints about lost parcels can go to the brand as well.
How do I start a courier franchise?
Apply through the brand's website. Brands look at your location, shop space, local parcel volumes and your ability to invest. Talk to two or three existing franchisees from a list like ours before you sign anything.
How do I find couriers that serve one PIN code?
Use each brand's PIN code check to see who delivers there, then find the nearest counter for that brand. For a remote PIN code, Speed Post is often the one service that reaches it.
