Email finder tools compared: Hunter, Snov.io, RocketReach, UpLead

How email finders work, what five of them cost per email, and when a ready list of business emails does the job faster.

Starleads wrote this guide. Starleads sells business contact lists and is not one of the tools compared here. Facts about the tools come from their own websites, checked on 20 October 2026; prices change, so check before you buy.

The quick answer

An email finder takes a person's name and their company's domain and returns a work email address, usually checked before you get it. Hunter.io and Snov.io charge for the emails they find and let a whole team share one plan. RocketReach and UpLead can add phone numbers. Apollo.io puts a finder inside a sales platform priced per seat. All five work best on companies with their own domain. To reach every director, HR head or business of one kind in an Indian city or state, a ready business email list is the faster route.

Which one to pick

  • Hunter.io: small teams finding work emails by name and domain, with unlimited users.
  • Snov.io: teams that want a finder, a verifier and cold email campaigns in one plan.
  • RocketReach: emails and phone numbers of named professionals, priced in rupees.
  • UpLead: an email and a mobile number with every credit.
  • Apollo.io: data, finder, sequences and CRM enrichment in one tool.

How email finders work

Every email lookup starts from two facts: the person's name and the domain their company uses for email. Hunter.io describes its Email Finder this way: it searches its database of addresses found publicly on the web, and if there is no match it works through "the likely permutations of the person's name on that domain". Most companies give everyone the same pattern, such as firstname@ or firstname.lastname@, so once a tool knows the pattern for one employee it can apply it to the next.

The guess is then checked: the tool asks the company's mail server whether that mailbox exists, without sending a message. Addresses that pass are marked verified; the rest come back with a confidence score or as "unknown". Some servers accept every address (a "catch-all" setting), so the check can't confirm the mailbox. Our guide to email verification tools explains these results.

Most finders charge only for results: Hunter.io says an address that can't be found is "free", Snov.io charges no credit when no email is found, and RocketReach refunds a lookup that finds no verified email or phone. How many emails you get depends on who you look for.

Why they find less for small Indian businesses

As a general observation, the method works well on companies with their own domain: IT firms, multinationals, listed companies and larger manufacturers. It works much less well on the businesses that make up most of Indian trade. Many shop owners, traders, contractors, clinics and small manufacturers have no website, or use a Gmail, Yahoo or Rediffmail address, often the business name with a number added. There is no company domain to search and no pattern to guess. Before you subscribe, try the free plan on twenty businesses you know, such as your own customers, and count the correct emails.

Hunter.io pricing and features

Hunter.io's Domain Search lists the addresses it knows at a company, Email Finder looks up one person, and Email Verifier checks addresses you have. It also has a B2B database, cold email sequences, browser extensions, CRM integrations and an API.

Pricing. Free gives 50 credits a month. Starter is $49 a month with 2,000 credits, or $34 a month billed yearly ($408 for 24,000 credits). Growth is $149 a month with 10,000 credits ($104 a month yearly), and Scale $299 a month with 25,000 ($209 a month yearly). Enterprise is priced on request. Every plan includes unlimited team members, who share the credits.

Credits and limits. One credit is one email found; a verification costs 0.5 credit. On monthly plans, "Credits reset monthly and don't roll over." It finds emails, not phone numbers. Suits founders and small teams.

Snov.io pricing and features

Snov.io pairs a finder and verifier with a cold email tool: campaigns with follow-ups, warm-up, a simple CRM and Chrome extensions. LinkedIn automation is an add-on at $69 a slot a month.

Pricing. The free Trial gives 50 credits and 100 recipients every 30 days, without bulk search, export or API. Starter is $39 a month with 1,000 credits and 5,000 recipients ($29.25 a month annually). Pro S is $99 a month with 5,000 credits and 25,000 recipients ($74.25 annually). Pro M is $189 (20,000 credits), Pro L $369 (50,000) and Ultra $738 (100,000). All include unlimited team seats.

Credits and limits. A credit pays for one email search or one verification. Snov.io puts a Starter credit at 3.9 cents and a Pro M credit at about 0.9 cents. Unused credits expire every 30 days unless you are on an annual plan or have plan renewal enabled, and campaign recipients are counted separately. Suits teams that email what they find.

RocketReach pricing and features

RocketReach is a database of professionals with emails and phone numbers; its website says you can "Search from 700 million professionals and 60 million companies".

Pricing. Opened from India, the page showed rupee prices for one seat. Monthly: Essentials (email only) ₹2,182 for 100 lookups a month, Pro (email and phone) ₹4,364 for 250, Ultimate ₹8,159 for 1,000. Annually: Essentials ₹790 a month (₹9,487 a year) with unlimited verified emails and 1,200 exports a year, Pro ₹1,589 a month (₹19,068) with 3,600 exports, Ultimate ₹3,178 a month (₹38,137) with 20,000 exports. Team plans "start at $6K annually".

Free use and limits. A free account gets 3 lookups. Phones start on Pro, and on annual plans the limit that matters is exports. RocketReach vs Hunter.io: RocketReach searches people and adds phones; Hunter.io works company by company and costs less per email. Suits recruiters and salespeople.

UpLead pricing and features

UpLead is a B2B contact database with a Chrome extension, CRM exports and an API. One credit gives you a contact's email and mobile direct dial for download or CRM export: "One credit equals one contact."

Pricing. The trial lasts 7 days with 5 credits. Essentials is $99 a month for 170 credits, or $74 a month billed annually for 2,040 a year. Plus is $199 a month for 400 credits, or $149 a month annually for 4,800, adding enrichment, technographics and suppression lists. Extra credits cost $0.60 (Essentials) or $0.50 (Plus). Professional is annual only, priced on request. UpLead says: "We verify email addresses with a data accuracy rate of 95%".

Limits. It costs more per contact because each credit includes the mobile number, and Essentials and Plus are for 1 user each. Suits buyers who will call as well as email.

Apollo.io as an email finder

Apollo.io is a sales platform: a contact database, email sequences, Chrome and Gmail extensions, CRM enrichment, a dialer and an API.

Pricing. Billed annually: Free with 900 credits per seat a year, granted monthly; Basic $49 per seat a month with 30,000 credits per seat a year; Professional $79 with 48,000; Organization $119 (minimum 3 seats) with 72,000. Billed monthly: Basic $65 per seat with 2,500 credits a month, Professional $99 with 4,000. "Prices exclude any applicable taxes." The 14-day trial includes 75 credits.

Credits and limits. An email costs 1 credit and a phone number 8; credits are pooled and "do not roll over if unused". Pricing is per seat, all seats share one plan, and the free plan connects only Gmail accounts. See our Apollo.io alternatives. Suits teams that will use the sequences and CRM features too.

Cost per email, worked out

Price divided by the emails or contacts each plan covers:

PlanArithmeticPer email or contact
Hunter.io Starter, monthly$49 ÷ 2,000 emails found$0.0245
Hunter.io Starter, yearly$408 ÷ 24,000$0.017
Snov.io Starter, monthly$39 ÷ 1,000 credits$0.039
Snov.io Pro S, monthly$99 ÷ 5,000 credits$0.0198
RocketReach Essentials, monthly₹2,182 ÷ 100 lookups₹21.82
RocketReach Essentials, annual₹9,487 ÷ 1,200 exportsabout ₹7.91
UpLead Essentials, monthly$99 ÷ 170 contactsabout $0.58
UpLead Plus, annual($149 × 12) ÷ 4,800 contactsabout $0.37
Apollo.io Basic, annual($49 × 12) ÷ 30,000 credits$0.0196 per email
Apollo.io Basic, monthly$65 ÷ 2,500 credits$0.026 per email

At roughly ₹88 to the dollar, that is about ₹2.16 per email on Hunter.io's monthly Starter, ₹3.43 per Snov.io Starter credit, ₹1.72 per email credit on Apollo.io's annual Basic, and ₹51 per UpLead contact, which includes a mobile number. The rupee figures move with the exchange rate.

How to choose an email finder

  • Who you sell to. Companies with their own domains suit a finder; owners who use Gmail or have no website don't.
  • Per user or per credit. Hunter.io and Snov.io include unlimited users. Apollo.io charges per seat, and the cheaper UpLead and RocketReach plans cover one user or seat.
  • Currency and GST. Four of the five bill in US dollars. If you need a GST invoice for input credit, ask before paying.
  • Phones. If your team calls, compare: 8 credits a number on Apollo.io, included in UpLead's credit, Pro and above on RocketReach, none on Hunter.io.
  • Expiring credits. Monthly credits lapse on Hunter.io, Snov.io (outside annual plans and renewal) and Apollo.io.
  • Sending rules. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for your sending domain first (our SPF, DKIM and DMARC guide), and send one-to-one emails in small daily numbers. Our cold email software comparison covers sending tools.

When a ready business email list is faster

A finder needs you to bring the names and companies. That works for target accounts, not for a whole market such as every company director in Maharashtra. Growth needs a steady supply of new contacts, and a finder only returns the people you already knew to ask for.

A Starleads list starts from the market. You pick an industry or type of professional and a city, state or all of India, and get every contact we hold for it in one Excel file, with the share of rows that have a mobile, an email and a named person shown before you buy. Our CEOs, MDs & Directors list has 36,173 contacts in 219 cities; 94% of rows have an email and 87% a mobile number. The HR Professionals list has 18,055 contacts, 89% with an email. Every list page shows 60 sample contacts free.

CEOs, MDs & Directors in the biggest cities:

Loading it into your tools:

  1. Check the free sample against people you know, then buy the list.
  2. In Excel, keep the columns you need: name, company, email, mobile, city.
  3. Run the emails through a verifier and delete the invalid ones.
  4. Save as CSV, import into your CRM or email tool, and assign rows by city or industry to each salesperson or sequence.
  5. Send one-to-one emails from your own mailbox in small batches. Newsletter platforms don't allow bought lists: Mailchimp's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits sending to "purchased, rented, third-party" lists.
  6. Before promotional calls, mark the numbers on the DND register; see our DND guide.

To combine industries and cities in one file, use the list builder. A city, state or specialisation list costs ₹499, and an All-India list with 10,000 or more contacts ₹1,999 as bulk data, paid once.

What Starleads doesn't do. The data is compiled from business directories and similar sources, so not every row has an email or a named person, and contact details change: verify before you send. There is no look-up of one named executive, which is what a finder is for, and no CRM integration or API (you import the file). Payment is by UPI or bank transfer, confirmed by hand, and the data covers India only.

What it costs: a worked example

A three-person team in Pune selling HR software wants about 1,500 work emails a month of HR managers and directors at companies it already knows. For one month:

  • Hunter.io Starter: $49 for the team, about ₹4,310 (49 × 88). 1,500 emails use 1,500 of 2,000 credits; the other 500 verify 1,000 addresses.
  • Snov.io Pro S: $99, about ₹8,710, for 5,000 credits shared between finding and verifying.
  • Apollo.io Basic, monthly: 3 seats × $65 = $195, about ₹17,160 plus taxes, with 7,500 pooled credits.

To reach the wider market too, the team could add the HR Professionals list for India (18,055 contacts) at ₹1,999, paid once, and keep the finder for key accounts. Tool costs in rupees move with the exchange rate.

Our verdict

For the work email of a named person at a company with its own domain, Hunter.io is the simplest start: it charges only for emails found, from $49 a month for 2,000, with unlimited users. Snov.io suits teams that also want to run campaigns from the same plan. RocketReach and UpLead cost more per contact but add phone numbers, and RocketReach prices in rupees. Apollo.io makes sense if you will use the whole platform. None of them gives you a market of buyers: a ready list covers every director, HR head or business of one kind in a city or state, and a finder fills in the named people it misses.

Do email finders work for small businesses in India?

Less well, as a general rule, because many use free email addresses or have no website. For whole trades or professions in a city or state, a ready list with the email share shown before you buy, as in our business email lists guide, is usually quicker.
