The quick answer
There is no official list of schools in Bangalore with the names, phone numbers and emails that a supplier needs. UDISE+, the Ministry of Education's school data system, counts every recognised school, and the CBSE and CISCE boards let you look up their own affiliated schools one at a time, but none of them is a contact book. Starleads has ready-made Bengaluru lists: on 1 November 2026 its Schools & Colleges in Bengaluru list had 6,570 institutions, its private school principals list for Bengaluru had 2,027 contacts (the largest city list of its kind in Starleads' data), and its Teachers in Bengaluru list had 25,766 educators. Each list costs ₹499, plus 18% GST, and you can download 60 rows free first.
This guide is for businesses that sell to schools in Bangalore: furniture makers, uniform and bag suppliers, publishers, edtech, ERP and smart-classroom firms, lab and sports suppliers, printers, school-bus and security services. If you are a parent choosing a school, this is not a ranking of the best schools; contact the schools directly. Nothing here is about reaching students or parents.
Who you are selling to: how Bangalore's school market is made up
Bengaluru is a large and mixed school market. A list of schools in Bangalore mixes at least six kinds of buyer, and each one decides and pays differently:
- Government schools run by Karnataka's school education department, and schools run by the city corporation. They buy through the department, state schemes and tenders, not from a cold call. Treat them as a tender market.
- Government-aided schools, many of them old institutions run by religious bodies, trusts and education societies in the older parts of the city. The management (secretary, correspondent or the society's committee) approves spending; the headmaster or headmistress shapes what is asked for.
- Private state-board schools, often English-medium "high schools" and "public schools" run by a local trust, sometimes with two or three branches. The owner, chairman or secretary is usually the person who signs.
- CBSE, ICSE and international schools, including the national and regional chains with several Bengaluru campuses, and newer campuses on the Sarjapur Road, Whitefield, Hennur, Yelahanka and Kanakapura Road sides of the city. They buy ERP software, smart classrooms, labs, sports infrastructure and transport, and the larger ones have an administrator, bursar or purchase office besides the principal.
- Pre-schools and Montessori houses, from branded franchise centres to single-owner Montessori houses in residential layouts. Whoever owns the centre decides, often within a week, and buys toys, furniture, learning material and uniforms.
- Pre-university (PU) colleges and degree colleges. In Karnataka, classes 11 and 12 are largely taught in pre-university colleges, which the state runs under its own pre-university education department, separate from schools. Many Bengaluru institutions run a school and a PU college under one name. If you sell to classes 11 and 12, you are often selling to a PU college, not a school.
Bengaluru is also a college city with engineering, medical, management and degree colleges, and in Starleads' data many of them sit in the same "schools and colleges" file. Split them out before you start; a college's purchase section and department heads need a different pitch from a school principal.
What the official data says about Karnataka's schools
The Ministry of Education's UDISE+ 2024-25 report (we read it on 1 November 2026) gives state-wide figures. Its tables do not break the numbers down by district, so the figures below are for all of Karnataka, not Bengaluru alone. We tried Karnataka's school education department website the same day for district figures and it did not respond.
| Management (Karnataka, 2024-25) | Schools | Pupils enrolled | Teachers | Schools with a computer facility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Government | 48,844 (65%) | 47,34,360 (40%) | 1,95,656 (43%) | 40.9% |
| Government aided | 6,905 (9%) | 13,81,517 (12%) | 39,091 (9%) | 71.4% |
| Private unaided recognised | 19,105 (26%) | 56,63,887 (48%) | 2,17,845 (48%) | 87.7% |
| Others | 5 | 487 | 10 | 80% |
| All schools | 74,859 | 1,17,80,251 | 4,52,602 | 55.7% |
What this means for a seller in Bengaluru:
- Private schools are a quarter of the schools but almost half of everything else. Karnataka's 19,105 private unaided schools enrol 48% of the state's pupils and employ 48% of its teachers. They choose their own suppliers and pay from fees. Bengaluru, as the state's biggest city, has a large share of them, which is why most school suppliers start with private schools here.
- Private schools are already equipped, so you are replacing, not introducing. UDISE+ counts a computer facility in 87.7% of Karnataka's private unaided schools against 40.9% of government schools. An edtech or computer-lab seller pitching a Bengaluru private school is usually up against an existing vendor, so lead with what is better, cheaper or easier to run, not with "go digital".
- The average school is small. UDISE+ gives Karnataka an average of 157 pupils and 6 teachers per school and a pupil-teacher ratio of 26, and counts 7,349 single-teacher schools. A large Bengaluru CBSE campus is far from that average, so price and pitch by the size of the school, not the board.
- Private schools carry more support staff. UDISE+ counts 24,929 non-teaching staff in Karnataka's schools, 14,657 of them in private unaided schools. Those are the offices, accounts and transport desks you will deal with after the principal says yes.
- Being in UDISE+ is not proof of recognition. The report notes that its data is based on schools' own voluntary uploads and warns that a school's inclusion in the portal's lists "does not confer the status of recognition to the school". Use UDISE+ to count and locate schools, not to vet a buyer.
Where to look schools up, and what each source lacks
Before you buy any list, know what the free sources give you. They are good for checking one school; none of them is built for outreach.
| Source | What it gives | What it does not give |
|---|---|---|
| UDISE+ (Ministry of Education) | Counts of schools, pupils and teachers by state and management; a school's UDISE code | Contact person, mobile or email for outreach; district tables in the national report |
| CBSE affiliation directory (SARAS) | CBSE-affiliated schools with their affiliation numbers, one search at a time | Non-CBSE schools; who handles purchases. Our CBSE schools list guide explains how to use it |
| CISCE school search | ICSE and ISC schools affiliated to the council | Other boards; buyer names |
| Karnataka school education department | The state's own notices for its schools | We could not open the site on 1 November 2026, so we cannot say what it offers today; check it yourself |
| School websites and Google Maps | Campus address, office phone, admission email | The person who signs; a way to work through hundreds of schools quickly |
| Starleads lists | Bengaluru schools, principals, teachers, pre-schools and coaching centres in Excel, with mobile, email, address and contact name where known | Every school in the city; some rows need cleaning (see below) |
If a school tells you it is CBSE-affiliated, the board's own office for the state is the CBSE Regional Office Bengaluru. CBSE's contact page (checked on 1 November 2026) lists it at Gnana Bharathi Main Road, Nagarbhaavi, Bengaluru 560072, covering Karnataka. Use the board's directory, not the regional office's phone line, to confirm an affiliation number. For the national picture of where school data comes from, see our schools list and database guide.
What Starleads' data shows for schools in Bangalore
These are the counts of contacts in Starleads' data, read from each list page on 1 November 2026, not an official census. One school may sit in two or three of these lists at once, so do not add them up.
| List | Contacts in Bengaluru | With a mobile | With an email | Named contact |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Schools & Colleges in Bengaluru | 6,570 | 97% | 24% | 69% |
| Private Schools: Principals & Decision Makers (K-12) in Bengaluru | 2,027 | 96% | 44% | 89% |
| Play Schools & Pre-schools in Bengaluru | 452 | 99% | 43% | 61% |
| Coaching & Tuition Centres in Bengaluru | 1,499 | 96% | 38% | 37% |
| Teachers in Bengaluru | 25,766 | 90% | 31% | 73% |
| Lecturers & Professors in Bengaluru | 2,468 | 99% | 96% | 100% |
What the numbers say:
- Bengaluru is the biggest city for school decision makers in Starleads' data. Its 2,027-contact principals list is the largest of the 13 city lists of that kind, ahead of Mumbai (1,573) and Jaipur (994), and holds 81% of the Karnataka principals list (2,501).
- The city is nearly the whole state in these lists. Bengaluru holds 6,570 of the 7,186 rows in the Schools & Colleges in Karnataka list (91%); the next towns are Mangaluru (54) and Belagavi (53). If you sell in Mysuru, Hubballi or Mangaluru too, the state list adds only a few hundred rows; UDISE+ shows that most of Karnataka's 74,859 schools are not in it.
- The schools list is a calling list, the lecturers list an email list. 97% of the schools and colleges rows have a mobile but only 24% an email. The lecturers and professors list has an email for 96%.
- Where the rows cluster. Where a locality is given, the schools list is thickest in Basavanagar, Jayanagar and JP Nagar, followed by Rabindranath Tagore Nagar, Koramangala and HSR Layout; the principals list in JP Nagar, Basavanagar and Rabindranath Tagore Nagar, then HSR Layout, Jayanagar and Bannerghatta Road. Only about 30% of rows give a locality, so plan routes by PIN code (80% of schools rows, 74% of principals rows have one).
- It is a part of the market, not all of it. Starleads' Karnataka principals list has 2,501 rows; UDISE+ counts 19,105 private unaided schools in the state. Use the lists as a fast start, not as a complete register.
If you sell beyond Karnataka, the Schools & Colleges in India list has 61,173 schools and colleges across India, 76% of them with a mobile number. The biggest city lists are below.
- Mumbai 8,753 contacts · 12% email · 96% mobile ₹499
- Bengaluru 6,570 contacts · 24% email · 97% mobile ₹499
- Pune 4,491 contacts · 32% email · 95% mobile ₹499
- Jaipur 4,212 contacts · 30% email · 98% mobile ₹499
- Ahmedabad 2,131 contacts · 6% email · 98% mobile ₹499
- Surat 1,595 contacts · 8% email · 98% mobile ₹499
- New Delhi 1,484 contacts · 18% email · 87% mobile ₹499
- Vadodara 1,470 contacts · 26% email · 98% mobile ₹499
- Gurugram 836 contacts · 30% email · 89% mobile ₹499
- Kota 800 contacts · 18% email · 75% mobile ₹499
- Ghaziabad 711 contacts · 31% email · 87% mobile ₹499
- Jodhpur 697 contacts · 28% email · 63% mobile ₹499
Where the Bengaluru lists fall short
We read the free 60-row samples of the schools and principals lists before writing this. Three things to know before you buy:
- The "schools and colleges" file is mixed. Of the 60 sample rows, about 30 were K-12 schools and pre-schools, about 20 were colleges, business schools and study or coaching institutes, and 5 had no category and were other businesses, such as a bag maker, a craft store and a telecom firm. The list's own overview counts 105 rows under "Bags- School & College", which are suppliers, not schools. Filter by category and name before a school campaign; the bag makers are useful only if you want competitors or partners.
- The principals list counts contacts, not schools. Its 60 sample rows covered 34 schools; 21 of them appeared more than once, with a different contact name and mobile each time (a principal, a secretary and a chairman, for example). That is useful, since you can reach both the person who uses your product and the one who signs, but expect fewer schools than rows. Only 28% of rows on the list carry a designation, so ask who you are speaking to.
- A few rows are outside the city. Bengaluru PIN codes start with 560. The samples had rows with 562 and 561 codes (towns around the city such as Devanahalli and Sarjapura) and one row with a Dakshina Kannada PIN. Check the PIN before you plan a visit.
Starleads does not promise that every number still works; schools change principals and phone numbers, which is why the sample is free. You can also use the list builder to pick Bengaluru and keep only the rows with a mobile or an email, or request a custom list.
Which Bengaluru list fits which seller
| Seller | Who to reach | Best list to start with |
|---|---|---|
| School furniture makers | Chairman, secretary or administrator; principal for classroom needs | Principals list; the Bengaluru furniture list (7,030 rows, 355 of them office furniture) shows who you compete with |
| Uniforms, shoes and bags | Secretary or principal, and the vendor the school appoints | Principals list; the pre-schools list (452) for pre-school uniforms |
| Publishers and book distributors | Principal and subject heads, before the book list is fixed | Principals list and teachers list; the book shops and publishers list (1,156 rows, 108 on Avenue Road) for trade partners |
| ERP, fee apps, smart classrooms | Chairman or director, principal, IT or admin head | Principals list for schools; schools and colleges list for PU and degree colleges |
| Labs, robotics, sports | Principal, science or physical education head | Principals list; teachers list for subject heads |
| Teacher training and certification | Principal for workshops; teachers for their own courses | Teachers (25,766) and lecturers (2,468) lists, for professional offers only |
| Exam and entrance coaching tie-ups | Owner or centre head | Coaching and tuition centres list (1,499; English language institutes are the biggest group, 140) |
| Printing, ID cards, bus GPS, CCTV, housekeeping | Administrator or office manager | Schools and colleges list and pre-schools list |
How to sell to schools in Bangalore, step by step
- Clean the file into four sheets. K-12 schools, pre-schools, PU and degree colleges, and everything else. Remove suppliers and duplicates, and tag each school by board if you know it (CBSE, ICSE, state board, international).
- Check the board in the official directory. For a CBSE or ICSE pitch, look the school up in the board's directory before you call; it tells you the affiliation level and saves you pitching senior-secondary products to a school that stops at class 10.
- Plan by zone, not by alphabet. Bengaluru traffic makes a day's route matter. Sort by PIN code and group the city roughly into the south (Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Basavanagudi, Banashankari, Bannerghatta Road), the east (Koramangala, HSR Layout, Whitefield, Marathahalli, Sarjapur Road), the north (Hebbal, RT Nagar, Hennur, Yelahanka) and the west (Rajajinagar, Malleswaram, Vijayanagar, Nagarbhaavi). One zone per day is realistic for visits.
- Find out who signs. In a trust-run school, the principal often recommends, the chairman or secretary approves anything costly, and the accounts office releases payment. In a chain, the purchase decision may sit in a head office that is not in the same building. Ask on the first call: "Who decides on furniture for the next academic year, and is that decided here or at your head office?"
- Call after the morning rush. School offices are busiest at the start of the day with assembly, admissions and visitors. The early afternoon is usually calmer; ask the office when the principal is free and call then.
- Open simply, in the language the office uses. Most Bengaluru school offices work in English and Kannada, and many staff speak Hindi, Tamil or Telugu too. For example: "Namaskara Sir, this is Ravi from a lab-furniture workshop in Peenya. Two CBSE schools near Hebbal use our chemistry benches. Could I send your science head a one-page price sheet?" Our cold calling tips cover what to say next.
- Time the pitch to the buying window. A school fixes next year's textbooks, uniform vendor and big purchases well before reopening, and the summer break is when installers can work on campus. Note each school's reopening month and budget meeting in your sheet; a call after the order is placed waits a full year.
- Send a quotation a trust committee can approve. Bengaluru schools that buy in volume usually want a formal quote on letterhead with your GSTIN, a per-unit and per-pupil price, the delivery and installation schedule, warranty, and two or three schools nearby that already use you. For government schools the route is a tender or the Government e-Marketplace, not a quote; our GeM registration guide covers it.
Calling and messaging schools within TRAI's rules
In Bengaluru's lists, 97% of school rows carry a mobile number, and for a small school, Montessori house or tuition centre that mobile is often the founder's own phone. A sales call or SMS to it is commercial communication under TRAI's rules, wherever you found the number. Three rules matter:
- DND (NCPR) and the Education category. TRAI's customer preference registration page (checked on 1 November 2026) lets a subscriber block commercial communication by category, mode (calls, SMS, auto-dialer and robo calls), time band and day, by SMS or call to 1909, an IVR, an app or a web portal. The list of categories includes "Education". For anyone selling learning apps, coaching tie-ups or teacher courses, that matters: a principal who has blocked that category has opted out of exactly your pitch. Run a DND check on the mobiles before any promotional push; our DND check guide shows how.
- Registered senders, headers and number series (DLT). TRAI's February 2025 amendment to its commercial communication regulations says every access provider must ensure that commercial communication on its network "takes place only using registered headers or the number resources allotted to the Senders from special series", and that a sender not registered with an access provider must not make commercial communication. The same document explains that the rules run on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and that promotional auto-dialer and robo calls go through 140-series numbers. For a school campaign this means two things: bulk SMS goes only through a provider registered on DLT, using your approved header and template (our DLT registration guide has the steps), and promotional calls at scale come from a registered 140-series line, not a salesperson's own SIM.
- Record what each school agreed to. Close every first call by asking whether the school would like the brochure on WhatsApp, by email or as an SMS link, and log the channel, the person and the date in your sheet or CRM. A school that asks not to be contacted goes on your own do-not-call list the same day, even if its number is not on DND.
Every list named here holds institutions and people in their working role: schools, colleges, principals, teachers and lecturers. Starleads has no lists of pupils, parents or other private individuals, and a teacher's number is for professional offers such as training or teaching material, never a route to families. For the rest of the city's trades, see our list of companies in Bangalore; the Insights figures count 3,39,403 businesses in Bengaluru in Starleads' data.
Questions people ask
How many schools are there in Bangalore?
We did not find an official Bengaluru count we could check today. UDISE+ 2024-25 counts 74,859 schools in Karnataka as a whole, 19,105 of them private unaided. In Starleads' data, the Bengaluru schools and colleges list had 6,570 institutions on 1 November 2026, including colleges; that is a count of contacts, not a census.
Is there a schools in Bangalore list PDF?
Every Starleads list has a free 60-row sample as a PDF or Excel file. Lists that circulate as PDFs on document-sharing sites are usually short, undated and cannot be filtered; an Excel file you can sort by PIN code is more useful for a sales team.
Which school is best for kids in Bangalore?
This guide does not rank schools; it is written for businesses that sell to them. Parents should compare boards, fees, distance and inspection of the campus, and check a CBSE or ICSE school's affiliation in the board's own directory.
What are the various types of schools in Bangalore?
By management: government, government-aided and private unaided schools. By board: Karnataka state board, CBSE, ICSE and international boards. Classes 11 and 12 are often in pre-university colleges rather than schools. Pre-schools and Montessori houses are a separate, owner-run market.
How do I get the list of CBSE schools in Bangalore?
Search CBSE's affiliation directory for the official names and affiliation numbers. For contact people, use Starleads' principals list and check each school's board in the directory; our CBSE schools list guide walks through both.
Which list should I use to reach school principals in Bengaluru?
The private school principals list: 89% of its rows name a contact and 96% have a mobile. Expect several rows for some schools, often the principal plus a secretary or chairman.
Can a school list be used to market coaching or admissions to families?
No. A school's office number and a teacher's mobile are there for business offers to the institution or the professional. Marketing tuition or admissions needs consent from the families themselves; Starleads does not sell student or parent contacts and will not build such a list on request.
