Schools list and database in India: schools and teachers
Where school and teacher data comes from, what a schools database contains, and how publishers and edtech firms reach schools.

What a schools list includes, and who it is for
A schools list for business use is a file of educational institutions with a phone number, an email address or both, so that a supplier can offer them furniture, books, software or training. The same idea extends to colleges, coaching centres and teachers in their working role. It is not a list of students or parents, and nothing here is about reaching them.
Education in India splits into groups that buy in different ways:
- Pre-schools and play schools, often owner-run or franchised, buying toys, small furniture and activity kits.
- K-12 schools: government and aided schools, low-fee private schools, and premium or international schools. Private schools run by trusts decide for themselves; government schools buy through their departments.
- Coaching and tuition centres, from one teacher's tuition class to large test-prep institutes in towns such as Kota.
- Colleges and universities: degree colleges, engineering and management institutes, polytechnics and ITIs, each with a principal or director, departments and a store or purchase section.
- Teachers and lecturers, who pick reference books and teaching aids and pay for their own courses.
Official school and college data, and its limits
India collects a lot of education data. Very little of it is meant for contacting anyone:
- UDISE+ is the Ministry of Education's system for school data. Schools report to it every year and each has a UDISE code. It is the place for counting and locating schools, but it is a statistics system, not a contact book.
- Board directories. CBSE lists its affiliated schools on its SARAS portal, CISCE has a search for ICSE and ISC schools, and state boards publish their own lists in very different formats. Our CBSE schools list guide walks through the CBSE directory.
- Higher education. UGC publishes lists of recognised universities, AICTE lists approved technical institutes, and the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) gives each college a code. They tell you an institution is recognised, not whom to call there.
- Teachers. No public teachers database exists, and none should: teachers' records sit with schools and education departments. A teachers database for sales is built from professional listings and is only for professional offers.

Who sells to schools and teachers
Almost everyone who buys school data supplies the education trade:
- Furniture makers, for example a Faridabad workshop making desks, benches, library racks and staffroom tables.
- Uniform, shoe and bag suppliers who sell to schools directly or through an appointed shop, including woollen sweater makers in Ludhiana.
- Publishers sending specimen copies to subject teachers before the book list is fixed.
- Lab and campus suppliers: science and computer labs for schools, workshop equipment for ITIs and polytechnics, and sports goods.
- Edtech firms: school ERP, fee apps, smart boards, assessment platforms and placement-training programmes for colleges.
- Teacher training providers offering workshops to schools and certificate courses to teachers.
- Local services: diary and ID card printing, bus GPS and CCTV, housekeeping and canteen contracts.
Selling to a school: who decides and when
- Find the person who signs. In a private school the principal decides on academic products, while the trust's chairman, secretary or correspondent approves anything costly, and the accountant or administrative officer releases payment. Central government schools often buy through GeM; our GeM registration guide explains how to sell there.
- Work back from the new session. It starts in April for CBSE and many state boards, and in June in some states. Furniture, books and uniforms are decided in the months before and delivered before reopening.
- Call after the last bell. The school office is calmest from about 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Mornings are assembly, classes and visitors.
- Open with something local. "Namaste Ma'am, I'm calling from a furniture maker in Faridabad. We have just supplied two-seater desks for the primary wing of a school in Sector 21. Who looks after furniture for next session at your school?"
- Have answers ready on price per piece or per student, delivery before the session starts, warranty, references from nearby schools, and whether you accept payment in parts.
- Send a sample or a demo, then visit. Schools rarely buy from a brochure alone.
Before calling mobile numbers, read the DND rules for business calls.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between a schools list and a schools database?
People mean the same thing: schools with their contact details. "Database" usually means more columns, such as the principal's name, address and PIN code, in a file you can sort and filter. Ours covers 67,232 schools and colleges, 75% with a mobile number.
Can I get a list of schools in one district?
Board directories and UDISE+ let you look schools up by district, one record at a time. Our lists are sold by state and city; the list builder combines several places, and you can request a custom list for an area we do not sell yet.
Can I use a teachers list to sell tuition or courses to students?
No. These lists are for offering teachers and institutions things they use in their work. Use personal data only for a clear purpose like that, honour opt-outs and removal requests, and take advice on how India's data protection law applies to you.
Why do some schools never answer email?
Many smaller schools check their official inbox rarely and work by phone and WhatsApp. For them a call to the office is the better first step, and in this list mobile numbers are more common than email addresses.
