An IT companies in Chennai list: where the firms are
An IT companies in Chennai list is wanted by two kinds of people. Students and job changers want employers; for them, the companies' own careers pages and the job portals are the right tools. This guide is for the other kind: firms that supply, service or sell to Chennai's software and IT businesses.
The city's tech trade follows a few roads and estates:
- OMR, the IT Expressway: Rajiv Gandhi Salai runs from Tidel Park at Taramani through Perungudi, Thoraipakkam and Sholinganallur to the SIPCOT IT Park at Siruseri. The largest campuses are here, including back offices that serve banks and insurers abroad.
- Guindy and Porur: office blocks near the old Guindy industrial estate, and IT parks on the Porur side.
- Ambattur: the industrial estate in the north-west, where IT parks and BPO offices have come up among the factories.
- Product companies: Chennai is known for software firms that sell subscriptions to customers worldwide, several of them grown from small teams in the city.
- Small firms and hardware: web studios in Velachery, Adyar and T Nagar, and computer and peripheral dealers around Ritchie Street, off Anna Salai.
These groups buy in very different ways. A campus on OMR buys through vendor registration and purchase orders, and pays on its own cycle; a dealer near Ritchie Street decides on the spot and wants stock this week.
What free Chennai sources tell you
- STPI's Chennai centre works with firms that export software under its scheme. Its records tell you a business sells abroad, not who runs its admin.
- ELCOT, the state's electronics corporation, describes the IT parks and special economic zones it runs across Tamil Nadu. That is a map of buildings, not a list of tenants.
- The Madras Chamber, CII and NASSCOM hold events in the city where you can meet founders and admin heads. None of them sells or shares a member contact sheet.
- Professional networking sites show who heads IT, HR or facilities at a firm. Messaging strangers there in bulk gets accounts restricted quickly.
- Old printed directories and PDFs are full of 044 landlines that ring at empty reception desks, and many firms on them have since moved or closed.
A list of IT companies in Chennai, with figures
Our IT & Software Companies in Chennai list counts 2,293 businesses. Mobile numbers appear on 52% of rows and email addresses on 93%; 38% also give the contact's designation, which helps you tell a founder from an office manager. Email is the strongest column here, which suits Chennai's IT offices: write first, then phone. Some rows carry only an office landline, so a share of your calls will go through reception. Look through the 60 sample rows on the list page, or the free Excel sample, before you buy.
The file is wider than software alone. It also holds computer dealers, networking and telecom equipment companies and internet providers, which the Category column separates from the developers and service firms.
Neighbourhoods that appear most
The areas with the most businesses in this list:
- Velacheri: 37
- T Nagar: 34
- Kodambakkam: 29
- Adyar: 26
- Guindy: 21
- Mount Road: 21
- Porur: 21
- Vadapalani: 21
Older neighbourhoods can outnumber OMR here because a list counts businesses, not staff: a whole campus is one row, while one street of small firms can fill dozens. Some labels are post office names, and many rows have no area.

Businesses that sell to Chennai IT firms
- Facility management, housekeeping, security and pantry contractors for the OMR campuses, and cab operators who run night-shift transport for teams working to US and UK hours.
- Backup, data recovery and power continuity providers, a real concern in a city where the northeast monsoon can flood roads and basements.
- Marketing agencies, content writers and billing tool sellers for the product companies that sell abroad.
- Recruiters, background verification firms and campus hiring partners.
- Distributors supplying the hardware dealers, and internet providers selling leased lines to small offices.
- Company secretaries and CA firms looking after start-ups.
How to pitch IT companies in Chennai
- Write before you ring. Send three short lines to the right manager, then phone two days later. Our cold email templates help with the wording, and the SPF, DKIM and DMARC guide keeps your mail out of spam.
- Be ready for vendor paperwork. Larger OMR firms ask for PAN, GST, bank details, an Udyam certificate if you have one, and often an NDA before the first order. Our guide to vendor registration lists what to keep ready.
- Open in Tamil, continue in English. For example: "Vanakkam, I am Lakshmi from a facility services firm in Perungudi. We run housekeeping and pantry services for three software offices on OMR. Who handles admin contracts at your Sholinganallur office?"
- Plan along the road. OMR is one long corridor, so work it in a line, from Taramani southward. Give Guindy and Porur another day, and Ambattur a third.
- Watch the clock and the calendar. Mid-morning suits day-shift admin teams; teams on US hours are easier after lunch. Many staff travel home for Pongal in January, so leave that week for follow-ups.
- Check calling rules. Look up the DND rules before any promotional call or SMS.
