The architects' register, ready lists by city, and how building-material firms get specified.

Who is on an architects list
An architects list matters most to the businesses that want architects to choose their products. In India the word covers a wider group than the title suggests, and a useful list lets you tell them apart:
- Registered architects. Under the Architects Act, 1972, only people registered with the Council of Architecture may use the title "architect". They design buildings, sign the drawings submitted for approval and write the specifications that contractors follow.
- Interior designers and decorators. No statutory register covers them. Many run small studios that design and also execute homes, offices, shops and restaurants, buying materials themselves.
- Design-and-build firms that take a project from drawings to handover.
- Civil engineers and contractors, who build what architects draw and often choose the brand when a specification says "or equivalent".
Practices range from a single architect working from home in Indore to studios with dozens of staff in the metros; in our data the largest numbers are in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.
Checking an architect on the Council of Architecture register
The Council of Architecture (CoA) keeps the national register of architects, and its website lets anyone check an architect by name or registration number. Use it to confirm that a firm is led by a registered architect, which matters when you are paying a commission or signing a supply agreement.
The register is a checking tool, not a sales tool. It shows registration details one person at a time, has no mobile numbers, says nothing about the kind of projects a practice takes on, and leaves out interior designers entirely. Two professional bodies fill some of the gap: the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) and the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) both run city chapters whose events let suppliers meet members. Building-material and design trade fairs are the other place to meet many at once, though only for a few days a year.

The Architects & Interior Designers list holds 64,338 practices and professionals in 186 cities. The same architects data is sold for 16 states and 22 cities.

What gets sold to architects, and why specification matters
An architect rarely pays for tiles or taps. They write the specification, the client approves it, and the contractor buys. If your brand is named in the drawings or the bill of quantities, you have the order before the contractor ever calls a dealer. That is why these firms keep architects' contacts:
- tile and sanitaryware makers, many of them in Morbi, Gujarat;
- lighting, switches, home automation and lift companies;
- plywood, laminate, veneer, wooden flooring and modular kitchen brands;
- glass, aluminium window and facade system suppliers for commercial work;
- paint, wallpaper and natural stone sellers, and decorative hardware such as brass fittings from Jamnagar and brassware from Moradabad;
- resellers of drawing, BIM and rendering software, and freelance 3D visualisers and model makers.
Interior designers work a little differently. On smaller jobs they often buy directly, so a showroom or dealer near their sites matters more to them than a catalogue.
How to get an architect's attention
- Match the practice to the product. A studio doing villas needs different things from one doing hospitals or factories. Look at the firm's website or Instagram page before you call.
- Call late morning or late afternoon. Between about 11 am and 1 pm, or after 4 pm, is usually the best time to find the principal architect in the studio; site visits fill many mornings.
- Offer something useful in the first sentence. For example: "Good morning, I'm calling from a tile maker in Morbi. We have just launched large-format slabs in a matt stone finish, and I'd like to drop a sample box and our technical catalogue at your studio this week. Would Thursday suit you?"
- Bring what they will ask for: sizes and finishes, technical data sheets, CAD or BIM files of your products, lead times, a dealer near the site, the price band, and projects where your product is already installed.
- Offer a short talk at the studio. A twenty-minute presentation over lunch, with samples the team can handle, puts your brand in their material library.
- Follow up by project, not by month. Ask which upcoming projects could use you, and call back when each reaches the finishing stage.
Email to architects works best with one strong picture and a link, not a heavy attachment. Our cold email templates adapt easily, and the 7-day calling plan keeps a list moving.
Questions people ask
What does architects data usually include?
The architect's or firm's name, phone numbers, email, address and city, and often whether they work on buildings, interiors or both. In our list, 90% of 64,338 contacts have a mobile number and 56% an email address.
Is everyone in an architects contact list a registered architect?
No. An architects contact list usually mixes architects with interior designers and decorators, because listings use the words loosely. If registration matters for your deal, check the person on the Council of Architecture register.
Can I reach architects in smaller cities?
Yes. Start from the state lists, or combine several towns in the list builder. In tier-2 towns one practice often handles both design and execution, so it may buy directly.
Do builders also decide on materials?
On housing projects, often yes: the developer's purchase team buys in bulk once the design is fixed. Our guide to builders and real estate agents lists covers them.
