Who is on a travel agents list in India

Most people who search for a travel agents list in India are hotels, resorts and destination companies looking for agents to sell their rooms and packages. The firms they find share a shopfront look but do quite different work:

  • Outbound tour operators: holidays abroad, visas and group departures to Dubai, Thailand, Singapore, Bali and Europe.
  • Domestic tour operators: Kashmir, Kerala, Goa, Rajasthan, Himachal and North East packages, the bread and butter of family holidays.
  • Inbound operators and destination management companies: ground handling for foreign tourists visiting India.
  • Ticketing agents: air, rail and bus bookings, often a one-person office in a district town.
  • Corporate travel firms: company travel, plus meetings, incentive trips, conferences and exhibitions.
  • Pilgrimage specialists: Char Dham, Vaishno Devi, Shirdi, Tirupati and similar circuits.

Many agents do two or three of these at once. A Surat agent may sell Goa packages, Dubai trips and train tickets from the same desk.

Approvals, accreditations and associations

  • Ministry of Tourism approval. The ministry runs a scheme that approves travel agents, tour operators, domestic tour operators and adventure tour operators. It is voluntary, so the approved firms are a small slice of the trade, though approval is a fair sign of an established business.
  • IATA accreditation. Agents that issue airline tickets directly hold an IATA code, which IATA lets you check. A code confirms the agency, not the person to speak to.
  • Trade associations. TAAI, IATO, ADTOI and OTOAI represent different parts of the trade, and several show member directories on their websites. They cover members only.
  • Trade fairs. Shows such as SATTE in Delhi and OTM in Mumbai are where hotels and tourism boards meet agents face to face.
  • GST portal. A GSTIN search confirms an agency's legal name, address and status before you extend credit.

No official list of travel agents in India covers the whole trade. Approval lists and directories are good for checking a firm you already know. To reach agents in a dozen towns, you need names and numbers in one file.

Our travel agents database and tour operators lists

Our Tour & Travel Agents list has 1,85,861 travel agencies, tour operators and ticketing offices in 387 cities. 94% include a mobile number and 56% a contact name. 78% include an email address, handy for sending rate sheets and itineraries. 85% carry a category that says what kind of travel business it is. The largest share sits in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune. You can open 60 real contacts free on the list page, and buy a single city (62 on sale) or state (25) if you only work one market.

Who sells to travel agents

  • Hotels, resorts and homestays offering agent rates. Our guide to hotel contact lists covers the other side of that deal.
  • Destination companies abroad in Dubai, Thailand, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, which reach Indian travellers through Indian agents.
  • Tourism boards and airlines running roadshows in Indian cities.
  • Travel insurers, visa services and forex providers.
  • Software firms: travel CRMs, itinerary builders, B2B booking engines and accounting.
  • Coach operators, cruise lines and event venues.

How to get agents to sell your product

  1. Time it to their selling season. Agents put together summer packages early in the year and Diwali and winter packages during the monsoon months. Pitch then, not in the weeks when they are busy issuing tickets.
  2. Call on a weekday afternoon. From about 2:30 to 5 pm is usually calmer than the morning, when date changes and client calls pile up.
  3. Make the offer specific. For example: "Hello, I'm calling from a 24-room resort in Munnar. We give agents net rates and a free plantation tour for groups of ten or more. Do you send families to Kerala in April and May?"
  4. Have answers ready on net rates or commission, validity and blackout dates, child policy, cancellation terms, how fast you confirm, advance or credit, and whether you will undercut them by selling direct to their clients.
  5. Send an agent kit by email: rate sheet, photos and a sample itinerary they can put their own name on. Our B2B cold email templates help with the covering note.
  6. Invite your best agents on a familiarisation trip. An agent who has stayed at a property sells it with far more conviction.

Things people ask about travel agent lists

Are approved agents the only ones worth calling?

No. Approval is voluntary, and plenty of busy agents in tier-2 towns never apply. Use the approval as one sign of a settled firm, alongside its GST status and how long it has traded.

How do I find agents who sell one destination?

The category column shows the kind of business, not every destination. Ask in the first call: "Which places do you send most families to?" Then tag your sheet, so a Kashmir specialist hears about your Gulmarg hotel and not your Goa one.

Can I send travel agents offers on WhatsApp?

Only after they agree to receive them, and at scale only through the WhatsApp Business Platform with approved templates. Our WhatsApp marketing guide explains what is allowed.
