Kompass alternatives for India: Kompass vs Starleads

Kompass against IndiaMART, InfobelPRO and ready-made manufacturer lists.

Kompass in short

Kompass is a company-information database and B2B directory. You search it for companies, see their profiles and the managers it lists, and export the results "in the file formats you want". Its website claims "+59 million companies" and "+77 million managers". It does not give a separate count for India, so ask for the India figure for your industry before you commit.

Two Kompass products matter to an Indian buyer. EasyBusiness is the data platform: its price is given on request, and it offers a free trial ("Test EasyBusiness for 14 days for free"). KSales, linked from Kompass's India site, is a prospecting tool paid in credits. Its Starter plan is "59 € /per month, Monthly renewal" with 200 credits, and there is a one-week trial with 10 credits. KSales exports to Excel or CSV and has a Chrome extension.

So Kompass suits companies that want a searchable database, often across several countries, and will pay a subscription for it. Starleads sells something narrower: ready-made Excel lists of Indian businesses by industry, state and city, at one fixed price per list.

Where Kompass is the better choice

  • Markets outside India. Starleads sells Indian data only. If you export, or sell to companies in several countries, a directory that claims companies worldwide is the right tool.
  • Named managers. Kompass lists managers alongside companies. Starleads can't look up one named executive at a company you already have in mind.
  • A tool you keep using. EasyBusiness and KSales are platforms you can search again whenever you need, with exports in your chosen format and, on KSales, a Chrome extension. A Starleads list is an Excel file, with no API or CRM integration.
  • Large data projects. To size a market, segment companies or build a long-term prospect database, a company-information database on a quoted plan fits better than buying list after list.
  • Searching before you pay. The 14-day EasyBusiness trial and the KSales trial let you run your own searches first. On Starleads you see sample rows of a list, not a search of the whole data.

Where Starleads is the better choice

  • A price you can see. Every city, state or specialisation list costs ₹499 whatever its size, with no subscription, no credits and no GST added.
  • Many small Indian businesses in one place. If you sell to dealers, contractors or clinics in a city, a ready-made list puts the ones we hold in one file, ready for a calling team.
  • Checking before paying. Each list page shows 60 real contacts (partly masked) and the share of rows with a mobile, an email, an address and a contact name.
  • Rupee payment and an invoice. You pay once in rupees by UPI or bank transfer and the file arrives in your account with an invoice.

If you are looking for manufacturers or exporters, these are the matching Starleads All-India lists:

Need a different mix of industries and cities? The list builder puts them in one file. For trade data in more depth, see our exporters and importers database guide.

Starleads' limits, plainly: the data is compiled from business directories and similar sources, so not every row has an email or a named person, and contact details change over time. Payment is by UPI or bank transfer only, confirmed by hand, with no card or gateway payment. There is no API or CRM integration, and the data covers India only.

Other Kompass alternatives

IndiaMART is a B2B marketplace, not a database. Suppliers on a paid package open buyers' requirements, called BuyLeads, and contact those buyers. Its cheapest published annual package is MDC at "Rs. 40,000" for one year, "exclusive of taxes". See IndiaMART alternatives.

InfobelPRO is another company-information database. It claims "35.6M" Indian companies and "9.2M" Indian contacts, gives prices on request, offers a free sample and delivers by API or as CSV, JSON or Parquet files. See InfobelPRO alternatives.

Dun & Bradstreet India sells D&B Hoovers, a sales platform with company data, and ready-to-use contact lists, all on request. It suits large companies that want company profiles and corporate linkages. See Dun & Bradstreet alternatives.

ExportersIndia is a marketplace for exporters, with annual plans from ₹24,000 plus GST; the cheapest includes 6 buy leads a month. See ExportersIndia alternatives. For all the main kinds of provider side by side, read our comparison of B2B data providers in India.

Our verdict

Choose Kompass if you need companies in more than one country, the names of managers, or a platform your team will search for months, and you are comfortable with a quoted or euro-priced subscription. Choose Starleads if you want every Indian business of one kind in a city or state as an Excel file, at a fixed rupee price you can see before you pay. An exporter can use both: a company database for foreign buyers, and a ready-made list for selling inside India. Try the Kompass trial and download a Starleads sample, and compare them on your own target market.
