Kerala's economy, seen by someone selling to it
A list of companies in Kerala looks different from one for a state built around big industrial estates. Kerala's business is spread along the whole length of the state, from Thiruvananthapuram in the south to Kozhikode and beyond in the north, and much of it is trade, services, tourism and export processing. If you are hunting for a job, company careers pages and job portals will serve you better; this guide is for businesses that want buyers or suppliers in the state. The parts that matter most to a seller:
- Kochi: the port, the Infopark IT campus at Kakkanad, and a dense mix of traders, distributors and service firms. Many Kochi addresses give Ernakulam instead of Kochi.
- Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum): the capital, home to Technopark and to the offices of the state government and its bodies.
- Kozhikode (Calicut): Cyberpark, and the shops and wholesalers that serve north Kerala.
- Traditional industries: coir, cashew processing centred on Kollam, spices and rubber.
- Seafood and tourism: seafood processors and exporters along the coast, and hotels, resorts, homestays, Ayurveda centres and tour operators inland and on the beaches.
- Retail fed by remittances: money sent home by Keralites working abroad, many of them in the Gulf, keeps showrooms for gold, furniture, electronics and cars busy, and pays for a great deal of house building.
State bodies, associations and other free sources
- KSIDC (Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation) promotes and finances industry in the state, and KINFRA (Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation) develops industrial parks. Their websites describe parks and schemes, not the firms inside.
- KSSIA (Kerala State Small Industries Association) has members in every district. Its records are kept for members, so ask before you count on them.
- District Industries Centres, one in each district, run the state's MSME schemes and know the local clusters.
- Export promotion bodies for seafood, spices, cashew and coir register the exporters in their trades. Their directories are partial and rarely give a buyer's direct number.
- MCA master data and the GST search confirm one company or GSTIN at a time. Our guide to company and GST look-ups explains both.
Our list of companies in Kerala, statewide and by city
The Kerala Business Directory brings together 87,127 businesses from across the state. Of these, 65% have a mobile number, 41% an email address and 13% a website, and nearly every row names its town, so you can cut the file down to one district's towns in a minute. The list page shows 60 real contacts, the Excel sample is free, and a state list costs ₹499.
Kerala cities with their own lists
These cities have pages of their own, each with lists by industry: Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kottayam, Kollam and Palakkad. Who sells to Kerala businesses
- Freight forwarders, cold chain operators, packaging firms and testing labs serving seafood, spice and cashew exporters. Our exporters and importers guide covers the national picture.
- Linen, toiletry, kitchen equipment, booking software and Ayurveda product suppliers for hotels, resorts and homestays; the hotels guide has more on selling to them.
- Consumer durable brands, furniture makers and distributors who want the showrooms that remittance money keeps busy.
- Building material, roofing, solar and interior firms selling to builders and civil contractors.
- Rubber chemicals, processing machinery and packaging suppliers for rubber-based units, and raw material sellers for small industries across the districts.
- IT services, staffing, office supplies and facility firms for the companies in Technopark, Infopark and Cyberpark.
Doing business by phone in Kerala
- Plan by region. Kerala is long and narrow, so keep a week's visits to one part of it: the south around Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, the centre around Kochi, Kottayam and Thrissur, or the north around Kozhikode and Kannur.
- Malayalam warms the call, English carries the deal. Business owners widely read and write English, and quotes in English are normal. A greeting in Malayalam, or a Malayalam-speaking colleague, makes the first conversation easier.
- Work with the seasons. Onam, usually in August or September, is the biggest shopping season, so retailers stock up in the weeks before it. The south-west monsoon from June brings heavy rain and a quieter time for tourism.
- Open with the job. For example: "Good morning, I supply vacuum pouches and master cartons to seafood exporters in Kochi. Who looks after packing material at your plant?"
- Follow the calling rules. Run numbers through the checks in our DND guide before promotional calls or SMS, and send a catalogue on WhatsApp only to people who ask for it.
Questions about Kerala companies
Which are the main industries in Kerala?
Tourism, seafood exports, spices, rubber, coir and cashew, plus IT in the parks at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. Trade, construction and retail, much of it funded by remittances, make up much of the rest.
Where are the IT companies in Kerala?
Mainly in three parks: Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, Infopark at Kakkanad in Kochi and Cyberpark in Kozhikode. Smaller software firms work from offices in the other big towns.
Is there a companies in Kerala list with email addresses?
Yes: 41% of the rows in our Kerala directory carry an email address, and each list page shows its own email share before you buy. Treat cold email with care: write only to business addresses, and set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC on your sending domain first, as our email authentication guide explains.
