Dairy companies in India: dairies and milk suppliers list
Cooperatives, private dairies and milk suppliers, who sells to them, and a dairy list by city.

How India's dairy sector is organised
India produces more milk than any other country, and most of it comes from small farmers with a few animals each. Getting that milk to customers takes three kinds of business, and a useful list of dairy companies covers all of them:
- Cooperatives. Under the model that began in Anand, Gujarat, farmers pour milk twice a day at a village dairy cooperative society, which tests it for fat and solids-not-fat (SNF) and pays on that basis. District milk unions collect, chill, process and pack it, and a state federation markets it under one brand. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) markets Amul for Gujarat's district unions; other state brands include Nandini in Karnataka, Aavin in Tamil Nadu, Milma in Kerala, Verka in Punjab and Sudha in Bihar. The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), also in Anand, supports the cooperative network and set up Mother Dairy.
- Private dairies. From listed companies such as Hatsun Agro, Heritage Foods, Parag Milk Foods and Dodla Dairy to regional brands and single-plant dairies, they buy milk through their own collection centres and agents, and sell packed milk, curd, paneer, ghee and ice cream.
- Small milk businesses. Milk collection and chilling centres, milk suppliers and vendors, khoya and paneer makers, dairy shops and milk parlours, many of them family-run.
Sweet shops, bakeries, hotels and food processors buy large amounts of milk, cream, khoya and paneer, so suppliers to dairies often sell to them too. Our FMCG companies guide covers the packaged food side.
Licences and registers
- FSSAI. Every food business, from a milk collection centre to a processing plant, needs FSSAI registration or a licence. The smallest operators register; larger ones need a state licence, and the biggest plants a central licence, depending on capacity. The 14-digit FSSAI number is printed on every pack, and the FSSAI's online licensing system lets you check a licence.
- Cooperative registers. Village societies, district unions and federations are registered under their state's cooperative societies law, or under the multi-state cooperative societies law if they work across states.
- Company records. Private dairies that are companies appear on the MCA website, and our CIN and DIN search guide shows how to find their directors.
None of these is a calling list. They confirm that a business is licensed and who runs it; for phone numbers and emails by city you need a contact list.

Whichever dairy list you buy, use the sample to check the mix. A city list holds processing dairies, chilling centres, milk shops and parlours side by side, so filter the category column for the kind you sell to: processors and chilling centres for equipment and packaging, shops and parlours for retail products and freezers.
Who sells to dairies
- Packaging: milk pouch film, curd cups and lids, PET and HDPE bottles, cartons, butter and cheese wraps, and printed labels.
- Collection and chilling: bulk milk coolers for village centres, automatic milk collection units that weigh and test milk, milk analysers, chilling plants and insulated milk tankers.
- Processing equipment: stainless steel tanks, pasteurisers, cream separators, homogenisers, packing machines, boilers, refrigeration and cleaning-in-place systems, and the engineers who maintain them.
- Inputs for farmers: cattle feed, mineral mixtures, veterinary medicines and artificial insemination services, often sold through the society or the dairy's procurement network. Fodder seed reaches farmers through the same agri input dealers covered in our seed and fertilizer dealers guide.
- Ingredients and services: cultures, stabilisers and flavours, cold chain transport, deep freezers and visi-coolers for retailers, milk collection and billing software, and solar power for plants.
How to approach a dairy
- Find the right person. In a district union or a large private dairy, the plant manager, the procurement head or the purchase department decides, and equipment and packaging are often bought through tenders, so ask how to register as a vendor; our vendor registration guide covers the usual steps. In a small dairy or a milk parlour, the owner decides.
- Call at the right time. Milk collection and dispatch fill the early morning and the evening, so late morning and early afternoon are better. Dairies plan around the flush season, the cooler months when milk is plentiful, and the lean summer months, so equipment for extra capacity is best offered before the flush begins.
- Lead with their problem: milk losses, testing disputes with farmers, chilling costs, pouch leaks or shelf life. For example: "Good morning, I'm calling from a maker of bulk milk coolers in Rajkot. We install and service coolers at village collection centres across Saurashtra. Who looks after chilling equipment at your union, and may I send our specification sheet?"
- Bring proof: installations they can visit, test reports, service response times and spare parts. Dairies run every day of the year, so service matters as much as price.
The 7-day calling plan keeps a list moving, and the DND guide covers the rules for promotional calls and SMS.
