Pest control companies in India: who they are
Pest control in India is mostly a local business. Alongside a few national brands, many small firms in every city treat homes, offices, hotels, warehouses and factories for cockroaches, termites, rodents, mosquitoes, bed bugs and stored-grain pests. A list of pest control companies helps two kinds of reader: suppliers who sell to these firms, and businesses that need a reliable pest control partner, often in several cities. The work falls into a few kinds:
- General pest management for homes and commercial kitchens, mostly gel baiting and spraying, sold as a one-time job or an annual maintenance contract (AMC).
- Anti-termite treatment, both for existing buildings and before construction, when the soil under the foundation is treated, as set out in the BIS code for anti-termite measures in buildings (IS 6313).
- Rodent and bird control, with bait stations, netting and spikes.
- Mosquito control and fogging for housing societies, campuses and civic contracts.
- Fumigation of stored grain, warehouses and containers. Fumigating export cargo and wooden packaging needs accreditation from the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage, on top of the usual licence.
The licence a pest control operator needs
Insecticides in India are controlled by the Insecticides Act, 1968 and the Insecticides Rules, 1971. A firm that uses insecticides for commercial pest control needs a licence under these rules, issued by the licensing officer the state government appoints, usually in its agriculture department. In general terms:
- the firm must have a trained person in charge of the work, with the qualification and training the rules ask for;
- it may only use insecticides registered by the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIB&RC), for the uses approved on their label;
- it must store chemicals safely and give its workers protective clothing and equipment;
- inspectors under the Act can check its premises and stock.
Forms and procedures differ a little by state, so a new firm should ask its state agriculture department for the current requirements. For buyers the advice is simple: before you sign a contract, especially for a kitchen, hospital or food factory, ask the company for its licence and the names of the chemicals it will use.

Who hires pest control companies
- Housing societies and apartment complexes, through annual contracts for common areas, plus individual flats. The managing committee or the facility manager decides.
- Hotels, restaurants and caterers. FSSAI's hygiene requirements for food businesses include a pest control programme, and inspectors and food safety auditors look for its records. Our hotels database and restaurants list guides cover these buyers.
- Food factories, dairies and cold stores, which need documented pest control for FSSAI compliance and for audits by large customers and export buyers.
- Warehouses and godowns, including grain stores that need regular fumigation, and logistics parks.
- Pharma plants, hospitals and labs, where manufacturing practice rules and infection control call for documented pest control.
- Offices, schools, malls and factories, often through a facility management company that subcontracts the work.
- Builders, for pre-construction anti-termite treatment on new projects.
Selling to pest control firms
Suppliers sell these firms a steady stream of products and services:
- insecticide makers and distributors: gels, baits, termiticides, rodenticides and fumigants;
- sprayers, foggers, bait stations, glue boards and UV fly catchers for kitchens;
- uniforms and protective equipment, and two-wheelers and vans for field teams;
- software for scheduling jobs, billing AMCs and sending service reports, and training for technicians.
- Call the owner early in the morning before the teams leave for jobs, or after 6 pm when they are back.
- Open with their customers. For example: "Good morning, sir. I'm calling from a Hyderabad distributor of cockroach gel and termiticides. Many of your AMC customers must be restaurants that food inspectors visit; would a gel that leaves no smell in the kitchen help you keep them happy?"
- If you are hiring a firm, ask which areas it serves, how many technicians it has, which chemicals it uses, and whether it gives a service report after each visit. Ask for references from sites like yours.
- Stock them before the peak. Demand rises in the monsoon, when termites, mosquitoes and cockroaches are at their worst, so suppliers should reach customers ahead of it.
Our cold calling tips help with openers and objections, and the DND rules apply to every sales call.
Questions people ask
Do pest control companies need a licence in India?
Yes. A firm using insecticides for commercial pest control needs a licence under the Insecticides Rules from its state's licensing authority, and fumigation of export cargo needs separate accreditation. Ask to see both where they apply.
Is pest control compulsory for restaurants?
FSSAI's hygiene requirements for food businesses include pest control, and food safety audits look for records of it. Most restaurants meet this with an annual contract with a licensed firm.
What is a pest control AMC?
An annual maintenance contract: a fixed number of visits a year, often monthly or quarterly, with extra treatment if pests come back in between. Housing societies, offices and restaurants mostly buy this way.
What should a pest control contract include?
The pests covered, the number and timing of visits, the chemicals and methods to be used, who will do the work and how they are trained, a service report after each visit, and what happens if pests return between visits. For anti-termite work, ask how long the warranty runs and what the firm will do if termites come back within it.
How do I find pest control companies in several cities?
Start from the state lists, or put several cities together in the list builder. Then shortlist the firms that serve commercial clients and ask each for references.
