What lab equipment suppliers sell

Lab equipment suppliers in India range from makers of glassware and teaching kits to distributors of imported analytical instruments. A useful list of them covers several trades:

  • General lab equipment: balances, ovens, incubators, autoclaves, centrifuges, water baths, fume hoods and lab furniture.
  • Analytical instruments: spectrophotometers, HPLC and gas chromatography systems, pH and conductivity meters, moisture analysers and dissolution testers, many of them imported and sold through authorised distributors.
  • Glassware, plasticware and consumables: beakers, pipettes, filter papers, culture media and reagents.
  • Diagnostic analysers for pathology labs, such as biochemistry and haematology systems, sold with their reagents. These count as in vitro diagnostic medical devices, so their makers and importers need licences from CDSCO under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
  • Educational lab equipment: physics, chemistry and biology apparatus and models for schools and colleges.
  • Service: installation, calibration, repair and annual maintenance contracts.

Ambala Cantt in Haryana is the best-known centre in India for making scientific and educational instruments, and its makers supply dealers, schools and colleges across the country. Distributors of analytical and diagnostic equipment are concentrated in the big cities, close to the pharma, research and hospital clusters they serve.

Who buys lab equipment

  • Pathology labs and diagnostic centres, which buy analysers, centrifuges and microscopes, and a steady flow of reagents and consumables.
  • Pharma and chemical companies, whose quality control labs test every batch under good manufacturing practice rules, and whose R&D labs buy the more advanced instruments. Our pharma companies list guide covers them.
  • Hospitals, for their own labs and blood banks; see our hospitals list guide.
  • Colleges and universities, for science, pharmacy, engineering and medical departments, and schools for their physics, chemistry and biology labs.
  • Research institutes, such as the national laboratories of CSIR, ICAR and ICMR, and company R&D centres.
  • Testing labs for food, water, soil, the environment, textiles, cement and metals, run by companies, governments and independent firms.

Government buyers, including many colleges and research labs, buy through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM); our GeM registration guide explains how sellers get listed. Many such buyers place orders in the last months of the financial year, before 31 March, when unspent grants can lapse.

NABL accreditation, and why it matters to sellers

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), a constituent board of the Quality Council of India, accredits labs that meet international standards: ISO/IEC 17025 for testing and calibration labs, and ISO 15189 for medical labs. Its website has a searchable directory of accredited labs, which doubles as a list of buyers who care about documentation.

Accreditation shapes what a lab buys. An accredited lab must show that its instruments are calibrated, traceable and maintained, so it needs calibration by an accredited calibration lab, service records and paperwork from its suppliers. A supplier who provides installation and qualification documents, calibration certificates and a service engineer who arrives quickly wins over one who only quotes a low price. Pathology labs working towards NABL, and food testing labs, which need it to be recognised by FSSAI, are a steady market for exactly this.

Our lab equipment suppliers list

Our Lab & Scientific Equipment Suppliers list holds 2,146 makers, dealers and distributors of laboratory and scientific equipment in 48 cities. 66% have a mobile number, 72% an email address and 50% a landline. The biggest groups are in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru, and Ambala Cantt alone has 82 suppliers. Medical equipment suppliers and pathology labs

Medical equipment dealers often sell lab products too, and pathology labs are the buyers many suppliers want most:

How to approach lab buyers and suppliers

  1. Find the person who signs off. In a pathology lab, the owner or chief pathologist. In a pharma QC lab, the QC head, with purchase raising the order. In a college, the head of department and a purchase committee. In a supplier's firm, the proprietor.
  2. Lead with compliance and uptime. For example: "Good morning, ma'am. I'm calling from a Vadodara firm that does NABL-accredited calibration of balances, pipettes and ovens at your site. Before your next audit, would one visit for all your instruments help?"
  3. Offer a demonstration for instruments and sample packs for consumables. Labs change suppliers slowly, and a trial on their own samples is what moves them.
  4. Know the buying calendar: January to March for government and college budgets, and the weeks before audits for accredited labs.
  5. Follow up with documents: data sheets, certificates and a list of nearby installations they can call.

Our DND check guide covers the rules for sales calls.

Questions people ask

What is NABL accreditation?

Accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, part of the Quality Council of India. It confirms that a lab works to ISO/IEC 17025 (testing and calibration) or ISO 15189 (medical labs). NABL's website shows whether a lab is accredited and for which tests.

Is lab equipment the same as medical equipment?

They overlap. Diagnostic analysers and their reagents are medical devices under Indian rules, while general lab equipment such as ovens, balances and glassware is not. Many dealers sell both.

How do government labs buy equipment?

Mostly through GeM, by direct purchase, reverse auction or bid depending on the value, and sometimes through tenders on central or state procurement portals. Sellers need to be registered on GeM with their products listed.

What should I check before buying from a supplier on a list?

Whether the firm makes, imports or only resells; which brands it is authorised to sell and service; whether it has service engineers in your region; and whether it can supply calibration certificates and the documents your auditors will ask for. A list gives you names and numbers to start with; a call and the supplier's website answer the rest.

Where are lab instruments made in India?

Ambala Cantt is the best-known centre for scientific and educational instruments. Other makers of glassware, lab furniture and general equipment are spread across India's industrial cities, while many analytical instruments are imported and sold through distributors.
