What a list of companies in Bhopal covers

Bhopal is the capital of Madhya Pradesh, and much of its business is government, trade and services rather than factories. A job seeker may want a few large employers; a seller needs the owner-run units, traders, institutions and service firms as well. Bhopal's industry sits in a few clear places, and Mandideep, the area many people search for, is not in Bhopal district at all:

BHEL Bhopal: the large plant of Bharat Heavy Electricals, which makes heavy electrical equipment such as turbines, transformers and motors, with its own township around it.
Govindpura Industrial Area: next to BHEL, with many small and mid-sized engineering, fabrication, electrical and plastics units, a good number of them vendors to BHEL.
Mandideep: just south-east of the city in Raisen district, on the road to Narmadapuram, with larger plants making pharmaceuticals, textiles and yarn, graphite products and engineering goods.
Government and institutions: the state secretariat and directorates, public sector offices, hospitals and medical colleges including AIIMS Bhopal, and engineering and management colleges.
Trade: New Market in TT Nagar, the old city's Chowk Bazaar and Hamidia Road, the offices and showrooms of MP Nagar, and the wholesale cloth markets of Bairagarh.

Pick your segment before you look for data. A machine shop in Govindpura, a pharma plant in Mandideep and a coaching centre in MP Nagar buy different things from different people.

Free sources for Bhopal companies, and their limits

MPIDC (the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation) handles industrial land and investment across the state through regional offices, Bhopal's among them. Its site shows industrial areas and plots, not purchase contacts.
The District Industries Centres for Bhopal and Raisen run MSME schemes and registrations. Mandideep units fall under Raisen.
BHEL's supplier registration process, published on its website, tells you what Govindpura vendors must hold to supply the plant, but not who they are.
Chambers and estate associations: the state chambers of commerce based in Bhopal and the industry associations of Govindpura and Mandideep hold events; member details mostly stay with members.
MCA, GST and Udyam look-ups confirm a firm's status one name at a time. Madhya Pradesh GSTINs start with 23.
Old "Bhopal industries" PDFs list a few big names and rarely a working mobile number.

Pharma packaging, chemical, lab and utility service firms selling to the Mandideep plants.

Working a Bhopal list

Split the city into three. The old city and its markets; the newer centre of MP Nagar, Arera Colony and New Market; and the industrial side around BHEL and Govindpura. Keep Mandideep for a separate morning on the Narmadapuram road.
Find the buyer. In Govindpura the owner usually decides. At BHEL and the large Mandideep plants, register as a vendor first, then reach the user department. Government offices buy through tenders and GeM, not on a phone call.
Keep it plain, in Hindi. For example: "Namaste, this is Rahul from a CNC machining shop in Govindpura. We machine flanges and housings to drawing for some of BHEL's vendors. Who handles outsourced machining at your unit?"
Watch the year end. Government departments and many institutions place orders near the close of the financial year in March, so call in January and February.
Follow the rules. Check numbers against the DND rules before promotional calls or SMS.

Questions people ask

Which are the industrial areas in Bhopal?

Govindpura next to BHEL is the main one inside the city. Mandideep, the largest industrial area near Bhopal, is just across the district border in Raisen. The manufacturing companies guide covers the other hubs of India.

Where can I get a list of companies in Mandideep?

Mandideep units may give Bhopal, Raisen or Mandideep itself as their town, so search the address column for "Mandideep" in our Bhopal file and in the Madhya Pradesh lists. MPIDC's plot records show allottees, not current contacts.

How many companies are there in Bhopal?

There is no single count. MCA covers only companies and LLPs, Udyam only the MSMEs that registered, and GST only the firms that took a GST number. Our own directory holds 38,826 Bhopal businesses, and even that leaves out many home-run firms.
