Jaipur's hospitals, from SMS to the new colonies

This is a guide for suppliers, labs and service firms using a hospitals in Jaipur list. Anyone who needs care should contact the hospital itself, and in an emergency call 112, or 108 for an ambulance.

For a seller, the city's hospitals fall into a few groups:

• SMS Hospital and its sister hospitals. The large state-run teaching hospital and the other hospitals attached to SMS Medical College, where patients come from across the state. They buy by tender and through the state's central procurement.
• The central belt. C Scheme, Tonk Road and JLN Marg, with long-established private hospitals and specialist centres.
• The western colonies. Vaishali Nagar, Ajmer Road, Jhotwara and Chitrakoot, full of mid-size hospitals and nursing homes that grew with the housing.
• The south. Mansarovar, Malviya Nagar, Pratap Nagar and Sanganer, and further out towards Sitapura and Jagatpura, with some of the larger private hospitals.
• The north and the old city. Vidhyadhar Nagar and Shastri Nagar to the north, Adarsh Nagar and Raja Park near the walled city, and older nursing homes inside it.

Jaipur is also a centre for Ayurveda, home to the National Institute of Ayurveda, with Ayurvedic hospitals, clinics and medicine makers across the city, and it has a large number of dental hospitals and clinics.

Who sells to Jaipur hospitals

• Equipment dealers and biomedical service firms, for the sale and the maintenance contract that follows. Many Jaipur dealers cover the rest of Rajasthan as well.
• Imaging dealers. Ultrasound sales come under the PC-PNDT rules: a centre must be registered before it can use a machine, and dealers have to report who they sell to.
• Ayurveda suppliers: herbs and raw materials, classical medicines and oils, Panchakarma tables and steam units.

• Cooling and power. Summer temperatures in the mid-40s make AC servicing, water coolers, chillers and generator checks urgent before April.
• Medicines, labs and software: pharma and surgical distributors, labs that collect samples from nursing homes, hospital software and scheme claim desks.
• Everyday services: laundry, housekeeping, security, staffing, lift upkeep and biomedical waste collection.

Government hospitals get most medicines and much equipment through the Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation, which buys centrally by tender, and through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).

Checking Jaipur hospitals for free

• Clinical establishment registration. Private hospitals and nursing homes register with the state's health authorities. It proves a licence, not who places orders.
• The health schemes. Rajasthan's state health insurance scheme, run alongside Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, lists its empanelled hospitals. RGHS, the scheme for state government employees and pensioners, keeps its own list, and CGHS publishes the private hospitals empanelled in Jaipur.
• NABH. The accreditation board lists accredited hospitals, useful if you sell quality and audit services.

Every one of these confirms that a hospital exists and is approved for something. None gives you a purchase officer's name, a mobile number or a file you can sort.

Calling and visiting Jaipur hospitals

1. Split the file into four runs. The west (Vaishali Nagar, Ajmer Road, Jhotwara), the south (Mansarovar, Malviya Nagar, Tonk Road, Sanganer), the centre and old city (C Scheme, Adarsh Nagar, the walled city) and the north (Vidhyadhar Nagar, Shastri Nagar). One run a day.
2. Ask for the right person. Large hospitals have a purchase office and a biomedical engineer. In a nursing home, the owner doctor decides, often after the morning OPD.
3. Speak Hindi. It is the working language almost everywhere, from owners to store staff; corporate hospitals also work in English.
4. Open plainly. For example: "Namaste, doctor sahab. I'm Vikas from a Sitapura firm that services ACs and chillers for hospitals in Mansarovar and Tonk Road, with a technician on call through the summer. Who looks after maintenance at your hospital?"
5. Work around the heat. In May and June, visit before noon and close cooling contracts by March.
