Mumbai's business map: offices, markets and industrial belts
A list of companies in Mumbai has to cover three cities in one: the head offices of banks and big groups, a dense trading city in the old markets of South Mumbai, and the factories and warehouses that have moved out to Thane, Navi Mumbai and beyond. Job seekers searching this phrase want the big employers. If you sell something, you want the purchase desk of a firm that buys what you make, and in Mumbai that could be in any of these places:
- Finance and head offices at Nariman Point, Fort and Ballard Estate, Lower Parel and the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). BSE is on Dalal Street and NSE is in BKC, which is why so many brokers and fund houses are nearby.
- Wholesale trade in the old trading district of Kalbadevi and its neighbours: Zaveri Bazaar for gold, Lohar Chawl for electrical goods, Mangaldas Market for cloth and Masjid Bunder for spices and dry fruits. Food grains and produce go through the APMC market in Vashi.
- Diamonds and jewellery at the Bharat Diamond Bourse in BKC and in SEEPZ, Andheri East, where jewellery is made for export.
- Industry around the city: chemicals and pharma along the Thane-Belapur road and in Taloja, warehousing and powerlooms in Bhiwandi, small engineering units in Vasai and the MIDC estates of Andheri.
- Ports and shipping: freight forwarders, customs brokers and shipping agents serving Mumbai Port and JNPA at Nhava Sheva.
- Media and entertainment in Andheri, Goregaon and the studios around them.
Where a list of companies in Mumbai can come from for free
- MCA master data: any company or LLP's registered office, directors and status, looked up one at a time. The Zaveri Bazaar jeweller or the Lohar Chawl wholesaler trading as a proprietor will not be there.
- The stock exchanges: BSE and NSE publish lists of listed companies, and each company's filings name its compliance officer. Useful for big firms, silent about small traders.
- MIDC publishes its industrial areas around the city, from Andheri to Taloja and Tarapur. That tells you where to look, not whom to call.
- Chambers and councils: the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and GJEPC for gem and jewellery exporters. Member lists are partly public at best.
- Market associations of electrical merchants, cloth traders and jewellers keep member registers, usually on paper and for members.
The Mumbai business directory in Excel
Our Mumbai Business Directory runs to 6,81,153 businesses. Each row has the firm's name and, for most, the full address with PIN code. 77% carry a mobile number and 51% an email address. Open the free sample and the 60 rows on the page to judge it before buying. Like every city list it costs ₹499, paid by UPI or bank transfer.
Areas with the most businesses in the directory: Andheri East (16,030), Andheri West (13,003), Mumbai Central (9,044), Malad West (8,932), Fort (7,862), Kandivali West (7,176), Borivali West (6,835), Mira Road (5,963). Firms that write "Mumbai" on their letterhead can sit well outside the city limits, so expect a few suburbs beyond them.

Sellers who need Mumbai company data
- Freight forwarders, marine insurers and export packers chasing importers and exporters. Our exporters and importers guide covers that trade.
- Trading software, research and compliance firms selling to brokers; see the stock brokers guide.
- Linen, kitchen equipment and food distributors for hotels, restaurants and caterers.
- Event, printing and corporate gifting firms selling to head offices.
- Solvent, packaging and lab suppliers for the chemical and pharma units across the creek.
- Jewellery box, display and tool makers for Zaveri Bazaar and SEEPZ.
Working a Mumbai list line by line
- Sort by railway line. Mumbai moves on its suburban trains: the Western line from Churchgate, the Central line from CSMT and the Harbour line to Navi Mumbai and Panvel. Group visits along one line per day.
- Match the language to the desk. Corporate offices work in English. Most traders are comfortable in Hindi, many prefer Gujarati, and Marathi helps with local manufacturers.
- Catch traders before the rush. Call soon after a shop opens, before buyers crowd the counter. A useful opening: "Good morning, I supply jewellery boxes to showrooms in Zaveri Bazaar. Who handles packaging orders for you?"
- Plan around the weather and the calendar. Heavy monsoon rain between June and September can stop trains, so keep a phone slot ready for missed meetings. Many trading firms open new account books at Diwali, so the weeks before it are busy.
- Go through the vendor process with big companies. Head offices buy from approved vendors; our guide to vendor registration explains the paperwork. For calls and SMS to anyone, check the DND rules first.
