AC companies in India: the brands and who makes them

Room AC brands sold in India include Voltas of the Tata group, Blue Star, Daikin, LG, Samsung, Lloyd (a Havells brand), Hitachi, Carrier, Panasonic, Godrej, Haier, Whirlpool, Mitsubishi Electric and O General, among others. Some of them build ACs in their own Indian plants; Neemrana in Rajasthan and Sri City in Andhra Pradesh are two places where AC makers have set up factories. Others rely partly or wholly on contract manufacturers such as Amber Enterprises, PG Electroplast and EPACK Durable, which make room ACs and components for several brands.

Government policy is pushing more of the parts to be made here too. The production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for white goods, which covers air conditioners and LED lights, rewards companies that make components in India, such as compressors, copper tubes and heat exchangers, rather than only assembling imported kits.

Commercial cooling, or HVAC, is a separate trade: VRF systems, ducted and cassette units, chillers and air handling units for offices, hospitals, malls and factories, designed and installed by HVAC and MEP contractors. ISHRAE, the professional society for heating, refrigeration and air conditioning engineers, runs chapters across India and the ACREX India exhibition, where much of that trade meets.

For most sellers, though, the useful list is not the brands. It is the AC dealers, installers and service centres in every city, and that is the list Starleads sells.

How an AC reaches a wall, and who keeps it running

  • Brands and distributors supply dealers in each region and run schemes before and during the summer.
  • Dealers range from multi-brand appliance stores and large format chains to brand-exclusive shops and small AC specialists. Most arrange installation and offer EMI through consumer finance tie-ups.
  • Installers and service centres fit the units, then handle servicing, gas charging, repairs and annual maintenance contracts (AMCs). Some are brand-authorised service partners; many are independent and work on every brand.
  • Commercial buyers such as offices, schools, hospitals and housing societies sign AMCs with local service firms and buy new units through them.

Room ACs sold in India must carry a BEE star label. The rating is based on ISEER, a seasonal efficiency measure for Indian conditions, and BEE tightens the star bands from time to time, so the label shows the period it applies to. Dealers will ask whether a model's rating is current, because customers compare stars and power bills before price.

The trade is seasonal. Sales peak from about March to June in most of India, dealers stock up in the weeks before, and service centres are busiest in the first hot weeks when units come out of winter.

Our AC dealers and service centres list

The AC Dealers & Service Centres list has 19,162 businesses in 164 cities and towns: AC dealers, installers, repair and service centres, and some HVAC contractors. 92% have a mobile number, 41% an email address and 96% an address. 57% carry a contact name. Service firms in particular open, close and change numbers often, so no AC dealers list is ever complete; check the free sample first.

Appliance stores and electricians

Many ACs are sold by general appliance stores, and electricians often do the wiring and small installations:

Who sells to AC dealers and service centres

  • AC brands adding dealers in towns where they are thin, especially newer brands. Our guide on how to get a dealership shows what brands look for.
  • Installation material suppliers: copper pipe, insulation, drain pipes, outdoor unit stands, wires and installation kits.
  • Voltage stabiliser makers and sellers of tools such as vacuum pumps, gauges and leak detectors.
  • Refrigerant gas distributors supplying service centres.
  • Consumer finance and extended warranty firms that work through dealers at the point of sale.
  • Software for service businesses: job cards, technician tracking, AMC reminders and billing.
  • Buyers of service: offices, housing societies and facility managers looking for AMC vendors.

The same shops often sell inverters, stabilisers and other electronics. See our battery, inverter and UPS guide and the electronics manufacturers guide.

Calling AC dealers at the right time of year

  1. Call before the season, not in it. January and February are when dealers plan stock and listen to new offers. In May the phone is for customers.
  2. Separate dealers from service centres using the category column. A stock pitch to a repair shop wastes both your time.
  3. Open with what helps them in summer. For example: "Good morning, I'm calling from a copper pipe and installation kit supplier in Delhi. We deliver ready kits to AC dealers across NCR the next day, on 15-day credit. How many installations do you do in a peak month?"
  4. Expect questions on margin, scheme targets, credit, delivery time in peak weeks, and who handles warranty claims.
  5. Keep follow-ups short and use WhatsApp only after the dealer agrees.

Check the DND rules before you call, and see our cold calling tips for openers and objections.

Questions people ask

Which AC companies are Indian?

Voltas, Blue Star, Lloyd and Godrej are Indian companies or brands of Indian groups. Many foreign brands also make ACs in India, so "Indian brand" and "made in India" are separate questions. Check a model's box or the maker's site for where it was made.

Does the list include HVAC contractors?

Some, where they list themselves under air conditioning. For larger commercial contractors, also look at our contractors list guide.

Can I get AC service centres in one city only?

Yes: pick the city list above, then filter the category column for service. To combine several cities, use the list builder.
