This is a guide for suppliers, labs and service firms working from a hospitals in Pune list; anyone looking for care should check with the hospital directly and, in an emergency, call 112, or 108 for an ambulance.

The city's hospitals sit in a handful of distinct areas:

• The old city and Deccan. Sadashiv, Narayan and Shaniwar Peth and the stretch from Deccan Gymkhana to Erandwane and Karve Road hold older family-run hospitals and nursing homes and several large hospitals within a few kilometres.
• Camp and the station area. Sassoon General Hospital, the large state-run teaching hospital, is here, with private hospitals around it.
• The western suburbs. Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Aundh, Baner and Wakad, where mid-size multi-speciality hospitals grew with the housing for the IT workforce.
• The east. Hadapsar, Wanowrie, Kharadi and Viman Nagar, a newer belt of hospitals and diagnostic centres.

Checking Pune hospitals for free

• The Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations. Under the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act, each registers the hospitals and nursing homes in its area through its health department. Two registers, two offices, and neither is a contact list.
• The health schemes. Maharashtra's Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY publish their network hospitals, searchable by district. Only hospitals that joined appear.
• CGHS. The Central Government Health Scheme's Pune empanelment covers a further set of private hospitals.
• NABH. Accredited Pune hospitals appear on the board's website, useful if you sell accreditation consulting or audit services.

Each confirms that a hospital exists and is approved for something; none gives a purchase officer's name, a mobile number or a file you can download.

Calling and visiting Pune hospitals

1. Divide the file into four runs. The central city (the peths, Deccan, Erandwane, Camp), the west (Kothrud to Baner and Wakad), the east (Hadapsar to Kharadi) and Pimpri-Chinchwad (Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Bhosari). One run a day keeps you out of cross-city traffic.
2. Speak the owner's language. Many doctors who own nursing homes in the old city are happiest in Marathi; corporate hospital managers work in English; store and ward staff often in Hindi.
3. Ask for the right desk. Big hospitals have a purchase office and a biomedical engineering department. At a nursing home, ask when the doctor is free between the morning round and the evening OPD.
4. Open plainly. For example: "Namaskar. I'm Neha from a Hadapsar firm that collects, washes and returns hospital linen within a day. We already work with nursing homes in Kothrud and Karve Nagar. Who decides on laundry for your hospital?"

Does the Pune list cover Pimpri-Chinchwad?

It covers hospitals whose address gives Pune as the city, and many in Pimpri-Chinchwad do; the area column then shows Pimpri or Chinchwad. Hospitals that give another town as their city are in the Maharashtra list.
