Schools in Coimbatore: list with contact numbers and sources

Who buys what in Coimbatore's schools, what the official data shows, what Starleads' lists hold for the city and where they fall short, and how to call within TRAI's rules.

The quick answer

No government office publishes a list of schools in Coimbatore with the names, phone numbers and emails a supplier needs. UDISE+, the Ministry of Education's school data system, counts and codes every recognised school, and the boards publish their own directories, but none of them is a contact book. Starleads does not sell a separate Coimbatore schools list yet. Its Tamil Nadu lists had, on 28 October 2026, 187 schools and colleges in Coimbatore, 145 private schools with a principal or decision maker named, 94 play schools and 205 coaching centres, and a Teachers in Coimbatore list of 509 educators. Each list costs ₹499, and you can download 60 rows of any of them free before you decide.

This guide is for businesses that sell to schools in Coimbatore: furniture makers, uniform and bag suppliers, publishers, edtech and ERP firms, lab suppliers, printers and transport and security services. If you are a parent looking for admission, contact the school directly; nothing here is about reaching students or parents.

Schools in Coimbatore: how the market is made up

Coimbatore's schools follow Tamil Nadu's rules, but they do not all follow the same board or buy in the same way. A seller usually meets five kinds of buyer:

  • Government schools run by the state school education department, the city corporation and local bodies. They buy through the department, its schemes and tenders, not from a sales call.
  • Government-aided schools, run by private managements such as trusts, religious and mission bodies and societies, with aid from the government. The correspondent or secretary of the management decides on most purchases, and the headmaster or headmistress shapes what is asked for.
  • Private state-board and matriculation schools, many of them run by local trusts and educational groups, some with several branches across the district and in nearby towns such as Tiruppur, Pollachi and Mettupalayam.
  • CBSE, ICSE and international schools, often newer campuses on the city's outer roads. They buy smart classrooms, ERP software, sports facilities and lab equipment, and they usually have an administrator or bursar besides the principal.
  • Play schools and pre-schools, many of them franchise centres of national brands and owner-run in a house or small building. The owner decides, often within days.

Coimbatore is also a college town. Engineering, arts and science and professional colleges are a separate market with a purchase section, department heads and a placement office, and in Starleads' data many of them sit in the same lists as schools. Keep that in mind when you clean a list: a list called "schools and colleges" is two markets in one file.

What the official data says about Tamil Nadu's schools

The Ministry of Education's UDISE+ 2024-25 report (we read it on 28 October 2026) gives the state-wide picture. It does not break the figures down by district in the tables we used, so the numbers below are for all of Tamil Nadu, not Coimbatore alone.

ManagementSchoolsPupils enrolledTeachers
Government37,626 (65%)45,10,632 (36%)2,21,944 (40%)
Government aided8,254 (14%)19,59,060 (16%)73,111 (13%)

Others16522,3491,363
All schools57,9351,25,18,1675,49,850

Three points matter for a seller:

  1. Private schools are a fifth of the schools but almost half the pupils. The 11,890 private unaided schools enrol 48% of Tamil Nadu's pupils and employ 46% of its teachers. They are the schools that decide for themselves and pay from their own fees, which is why most school suppliers start with them.
  2. The average school is small. The report gives Tamil Nadu an average of 216 pupils and 9 teachers per school and a pupil-teacher ratio of 23. It also counts 3,671 single-teacher schools and 311 with no pupils enrolled. A large Coimbatore CBSE campus is very different from that average; price and pitch by the size of the school, not the label.
  3. Being in UDISE+ is not proof of anything you can sell on. The report's disclaimer says the data is uploaded voluntarily by schools, that the Ministry "assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions", and that a school's inclusion in the portal's lists "does not confer the status of recognition to the school". UDISE+ is the right place to count and locate schools, not to find a buyer's name or number.

For CBSE schools, the board's affiliation directory lets you look schools up one at a time; our CBSE schools list guide walks through it. For a national view of where school data comes from, see our schools list and database guide.

What Starleads' data shows for Coimbatore's schools

The figures below are counts of contacts in Starleads' data as shown on the list pages on 28 October 2026. They are not an official census of schools or teachers, and the lists overlap: the same school can appear in more than one.

ListIn CoimbatoreWhole listWith a mobileWith an email

Lecturers & Professors in Coimbatore37337398%97%

The mobile and email shares are for the whole list (the state list where the list is for Tamil Nadu), not for the Coimbatore rows alone. What the numbers say:

  • Coimbatore is the second city in each of the four Tamil Nadu education lists. It comes after Chennai in all four state lists: 187 of 1,304 schools and colleges (Chennai has 324), 145 of 1,398 private schools (Chennai 567), 94 of 638 play schools (Chennai 377) and 205 of 1,268 coaching centres (Chennai 791).
  • The principals list is the one to phone and write to. 71% of its Tamil Nadu rows have a mobile, 94% an email and 98% a contact person's name. The general schools and colleges list has emails for 73% but mobiles for only 36%, so it suits an email campaign better than a calling one.
  • The teachers list is mostly colleges. Of the 509 rows in Teachers in Coimbatore, the biggest groups by department are College (171), Engineering College (115) and School (88). A publisher selling school textbooks will find fewer school teachers in it than the title suggests; one selling to colleges will find more.
  • Starleads covers a part of the market, not all of it. Its Tamil Nadu private schools list has 1,398 rows; UDISE+ counts 11,890 private unaided schools in the state. Treat the lists as a quick start, not a complete register.

If you sell beyond Tamil Nadu, the Schools & Colleges in India list has 61,173 schools and colleges across India, 76% of them with a mobile number. The biggest city lists are below.

Where the lists fall short

We read the Coimbatore rows in the free samples before writing this. You should know about three problems before you buy:

  • Not every row is a school. Of the five Coimbatore rows in the Schools & Colleges sample, one was a school, one an engineering college, and three were other businesses filed under education: a trading company, a safety lockers firm and a design and print business. They may be useful leads for someone, but filter them out before a school campaign.
  • Some addresses are outside the city. A school with a Tiruppur address appeared under Coimbatore in the same sample. Check the address and PIN code before you plan a visit.
  • Contact names need a check. In the principals sample, two of the three Coimbatore schools appeared twice, each time with a different contact name, and some names look like two names run together. Use the school name and phone number, and confirm who the principal or correspondent is on the first call before you address a letter.

There is no Coimbatore-only schools list yet. You can buy the Tamil Nadu list and filter it by city, use the list builder to pick Coimbatore with only the rows that have a mobile or an email, or request a custom list. Starleads does not promise that every number still works; contact details change, which is why the sample is free.

From first call to approved supplier

  1. Split the file before you start. Put colleges, coaching centres and play schools in separate sheets from K-12 schools, and remove the rows that are not schools. Each group needs a different pitch.
  2. Plan by area. Sort by PIN code. The central areas around R S Puram, Gandhipuram and Saibaba Colony, the Avinashi Road and Peelamedu belt, and the campuses on the outer roads towards Pollachi, Mettupalayam and Sathy Road are separate days on the road.
  3. Find out who signs. In a trust-run school the principal often recommends but the correspondent or secretary approves anything costly, and the accountant releases payment. Ask on the first call: "Who decides on furniture for the new academic year?"
  4. Call after classes, not during them. School offices are busiest in the morning with assembly, admissions and visitors. The early afternoon, after the lunch break, is usually calmer; ask the office when the principal is free.
  5. Open in the language the school uses. Many school offices in Coimbatore are comfortable in Tamil and English. For example: "Vanakkam Madam, I am calling from a furniture maker in Ganapathy. We supplied two-seater desks to a matriculation school in Saravanampatti this year. Who looks after furniture for next year at your school?"
  6. Work back from the school calendar. Books, uniforms and furniture are decided months before the academic year starts and delivered before reopening. Ask each school when its year begins and when the management meets, note it, and call the month before.
  7. Have your papers ready. Expect to be asked for your GST registration, a price per piece or per pupil, delivery dates, warranty terms and references from nearby schools. Government schools buy through tenders and the Government e-Marketplace; our GeM registration guide explains that route.

Calling and messaging schools within the rules

Many small schools, play schools and coaching centres list the owner's or principal's personal mobile as the school number. TRAI's rules on commercial communication apply to those numbers whichever list they came from:

  • DND (NCPR). TRAI's customer preference registration page (checked on 28 October 2026) lets anyone block commercial communication fully or by category, mode, time band and day, by SMS or call to 1909, an app or a web portal. "Education" is one of the eight categories, so a principal can block education-related promotions, which is exactly what an edtech or training offer is. Check numbers before a promotional campaign; our DND check guide shows how.
  • Registered senders, headers and number series. TRAI's February 2025 amendment to the commercial communication regulations says every access provider must ensure that commercial communication on its network "takes place only using registered headers or the number resources allotted to the Senders from special series", and that senders register with an operator. The same document explains that the rules use Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) for preferences, consent and registrations, and that promotional auto-dialer and robo calls should go through 140-series numbers. In practice: send SMS through a DLT-registered provider with an approved header and template, and make promotional calls from a registered 140-series number, not a personal mobile.
  • Consent for follow-ups. At the end of the first call, ask how the school wants your catalogue (WhatsApp, SMS or email), and note the answer and the date. If someone says no, remove them.

Starleads sells lists of businesses and professionals only. It does not sell lists of students, parents or any other private individuals, and a school or teachers list must never be used to reach pupils or their families. For the city's other trades, start with our list of companies in Coimbatore; the Insights figures count 80,463 businesses in Coimbatore in Starleads' data.

Questions people ask

How many schools are there in Coimbatore?

We did not find an official district count we could check today. UDISE+ 2024-25 counts 57,935 schools in Tamil Nadu as a whole. In Starleads' data, the Tamil Nadu lists had 187 schools and colleges and 145 private schools in Coimbatore on 28 October 2026; those are counts of contacts, not a census, and they miss many schools.

Is there a free list of schools in Coimbatore?

UDISE+ and the board directories are free to search one school at a time, but they do not give contact people. Each Starleads list has a free 60-row sample in Excel or PDF; the Tamil Nadu samples include a few Coimbatore rows, not a full city list.

Can I get only the Coimbatore schools from the Tamil Nadu list?

Yes. Buy the Tamil Nadu list and filter the City column, or use the list builder to choose Coimbatore and keep only rows with a mobile number or an email. Check the address column too, since a few rows filed under Coimbatore are in nearby towns.

Which list should I use to reach school principals?

The private school principals list: 98% of its Tamil Nadu rows name a contact person and 94% have an email. Confirm the name on the first call, because some schools appear more than once with different names.

Can I use these lists to promote tuition or admissions to parents?

No. These lists are for offering schools, colleges and teachers things they use in their work. Starleads does not sell parent or student data, and using an institution's number to reach families is not what the lists are for.
