Mumbai's hospitals, from Parel to the suburbs
This guide is for suppliers and service firms; patients searching for a hospitals in Mumbai list should get in touch with the hospital itself, and in an emergency phone 112, or 108 for an ambulance. Sellers will find four groups here, each with its own way of buying:
- Public teaching hospitals. The municipal corporation (BMC) runs KEM in Parel, other teaching hospitals and a network of suburban ones; the state runs JJ at Byculla.
- Trust and community hospitals. Many Mumbai hospitals were set up by charitable trusts and community bodies. Purchases often pass through a committee, and long-serving suppliers are hard to dislodge.
- Private and corporate hospitals from South Mumbai to Andheri, Powai and Mulund, with purchase teams and vendor approval.
- Suburban nursing homes. Maternity, surgical and general nursing homes in residential buildings from Bandra to Dahisar and Sion to Mulund, each in the hands of one or two doctors and usually short of storage.
What the BMC, NABH and the schemes will tell you
- BMC registration. Under the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act, the BMC's health department registers private hospitals and nursing homes, and the registration has to be renewed. That proves a licence, not who places orders. Thane, Navi Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar are separate corporations with their own registers.
- The Charity Commissioner. Hospitals run by registered public trusts come under Maharashtra's Charity Commissioner, whose office publishes a list of the charitable hospitals that must set aside beds for poor patients. It is the quickest way to tell a trust hospital from a private one.
- NABH. Its accredited list picks out hospitals with formal quality systems, and usually formal purchase rules.
- PM-JAY and CGHS. Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY and the Central Government Health Scheme both show their empanelled hospitals in Mumbai, and only those.
Who sells to Mumbai hospitals, and what works here
Some lines of business fit Mumbai especially well:
- Consumables delivered small and often. A nursing home on the second floor of an old Dadar building cannot stock three months of gloves and dressings, so distributors who deliver weekly in small lots tend to win.
- Pre-monsoon work: waterproofing, roof and drainage repairs, generator and electrical checks, all wanted before June.
- Fire safety and electrical audits for nursing homes in older buildings.
- Equipment sales and upkeep: dealers, service engineers and maintenance contracts for monitors, OT equipment, imaging and lab analysers.
- Back-office services: hospital software, cashless claim and TPA desks, billing and medical coding.
- Daily operations: linen and laundry, housekeeping, pest control, security, staffing agencies, biomedical waste collection, and medical gas and lift maintenance.
KEM, JJ and the other public hospitals buy through tenders and the Government e-Marketplace; read our guide to registering as a GeM seller first.

Hospital lists for other Maharashtra cities

Selling to a Mumbai hospital, step by step
- Cut the city into three. The island city (Colaba to Mahim and Sion), the western suburbs (Bandra to Dahisar) and the eastern suburbs (Kurla to Mulund, with Chembur and Ghatkopar). Keep each day inside one; east-west links such as the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road crawl at peak time.
- Find the signatory. In a nursing home, the owner doctor, perhaps with a matron who keeps the stock; in a trust hospital, the administrator and a purchase committee; in a corporate hospital, central purchase plus the head of the user department.
- Call when the doctor is between duties. Many nursing home doctors operate in the morning and consult in the evening, so early afternoon is your window. English and Hindi work almost everywhere; Marathi is welcome, and Gujarati helps at some community hospitals.
- Make the first line count. For example: "Good afternoon, doctor. I'm Rohan from a Ghatkopar company that delivers sterile dressings and OT disposables to nursing homes in the eastern suburbs every week, in small lots. May I email you our rate list?"
- Beat the monsoon. Close maintenance contracts, repairs and stock-ups by May. From June to September, wards fill with fever cases and waterlogged roads delay deliveries, so new suppliers get little attention.
- Stay within the rules. Check numbers against the DND register rules before promotional calls or SMS.
Questions about Mumbai hospitals
Does the Mumbai list include Thane and Navi Mumbai?
No. Thane has a separate list, and hospitals that give Navi Mumbai or Panvel as their city are in the Hospitals & Nursing Homes in Maharashtra list. The Mumbai file holds addresses that give Mumbai as the city, which mostly means Colaba to Dahisar and Mulund.
Can I get only the nursing homes in Mumbai?
Filter the Category column for nursing homes, then search the name column for "nursing home" and "maternity", since many small places name themselves that way. For one type across several cities, request a custom list.
